Today we visited El Yunque National Rainforest - the only tropical rainforest in the US. We followed our tour guide through a series of small towns to a private reserved area to start our hike. Along the trail, we learned about the facts and history of the trees and plants that covered the rain forest. Some of us saw a tarantula and a tree snail. We traveled along the river and climbed rock trails until we found deep swimming holes where we had the opportunity to do a rope swing, jump off cliffs as high as 34 feet, and slide down the naturally created rock waterslide. After all the fun, we hiked down the mountain and of course picked up trash along the way.
From there, we went to Luquillo beach and enjoyed a lunch of frituras and arroz con gandules and then walked along the beach - with beautiful blue water, palm trees stretching across the crescent shape cove, and also enjoyed a swim in the warm water.
We arrived home around 4pm - the first time we have been home before sundown! Patricia from Cisco (and our connection to Corazon de Patria) came by to have a family BBQ dinner with us, and we then presented our 3 boxes (14 cubic feet / 150 pounds) of donated clothing and school supplies and presented our check from the GoFundMe campaign. So far, from the GoFundMe proceeds we have distributed $4,000 in cash for Techo, $4,000 in cash for Corazon de Patria, and $2,000 in materials for Techo. #puertorico
