Oh the throes of the spirit & the flesh
.........................(full album in bio)......................
I’m a person who has experienced the joy of Gods love through the Christian faith. In my experience, after that pleasure, other desires kind of go away. Pretty much everything on earth is like, not that great, after experiencing the love of God. The ideal is to integrate the eternal spiritual significance learned in the quiet place with physical duties and pleasures, but thats album 4. At this point of growth the character only knows how to be either in one or the other, spiritual or physical.
This song describes the character viewing the world after experiencing the quiet place of silence before God. He sees the world with new eyes and feels like an alien. That this world can’t sustain him. And it’s true, the world can’t sustain us, we all eventually die. Not as quickly as if we were living on mars but we will, that is certain.
The character, like many, eventually stops going back to that quiet place to be refreshed. This song is a silent nod between people who have experienced the spiritual, and are now deprived of it. It is a deep loneliness that is undeniable. This is an intentional design of reality. Many people walk away from faith because the way they experience it is unsustainable. To only receive God in the quiet place can’t work, we need to live on earth too. Album 4 is about just that so I’ll save it. I’ll just say, we can do both at the same time!
The quiet place is always there. It’s true that it sustains us as long as we keep going back. It is a spoonful of eternity to tide us over while we’re bound by time. The next song (3.7) describes that place.
