Filiology is about learning our roots and honoring our heritage. On a trip up North to meet the Kalingas, we showed our logo to a man named Bawer, who is a respected head of the community we were visiting.
He said it was a good symbol because our humanity is found in plants. Then he talked about how there is a kind of grass whose roots are difficult to uproot. And that it is a symbol for our humanity and how we draw our nourishment from the earth. This plant grows and radiates out from the stalk giving back to all. We must all be that grass to each other... strong at the root, growing outward to nourish others. .

I am one with the breeze flying over the land, giving life to all. I raise my wings & take flight, knowing and trusting that I am lighter than air. I see what I want from afar & take it. I know no limitations when it comes to how far I can go. I see, I swoop, I take charge. I soar high above & come closer than ever to heaven. I am the symbol of beloved dead, of magnificent ali'i; I am the sacred hawk.

Still unraveling from the Yukon journey. Notice that exquisite view! 😍🗻🌨️This is the remarkable Da Kų Cultural Center where my 2-day workshop was held for the First Nations women. It moves me so, because this is the gathering place that celebrates the traditions & languages they carry on & the cultural arts that are shared & performed for their descendants. It also honors their deeper connection to & respect for the land & the special places that have shaped their families & clans. 🙏🏽

one of my favorite recipes for a juicy life. for me, surrendering means letting it all go and resting. embodiment means dancing to my favorite music (frank ocean is my medicine today). and service means showing up with an honest heart right in the midst of the brokenness and beauty. every moment another gift and opportunity to remember that life is this eternal spiral of service and enjoyment. the more folks who practice this way will help accelerate our planetary shift into vibrations of astounding well-being and vitality ♥️

Do you know about the Padma Shri Awardee Tulsi Munda, who started teaching Adivasi children when she was 14? Read on if you don't!
Tulasi was born in the year 1947, in Keonjhar, one of the most backward regions of Odisha.

When she was 12 years old, she worked as a labourer in the iron mines, cutting stones and sifting iron from the waste; for which she was paid ₹2 per week. It was also during this time that she met the social reformist Vinobha Bhave. He had visited Odisha during the Bhoodan Andolan Yatra. Inspired by his vision and commitment to donate land (bhoodan) and improve the lives of poor villagers, she set on a journey that would change the lives of many people from her village.
.
In 1964, she returned to Serenda and took up the resolution of fighting illiteracy and devoting herself to teaching children, especially girls. Tulasi believed that illiteracy was the worst form of enslavement and the root cause of everything evil around her. Tulasi had to visit each and every house, literally begging the parents to send their children for learning. She even sold murri (puffed rice) and vegetables to raise money.
.
Over the next 50 years, Tulasi helped establish 17 schools and succeeded in educating 20,000 boys and girls. Today, the Adivasi Vikas Samiti School provides education up to 110th standard and enrolls over 500 students, more than half of whom are girls. In the year 2001, Tulasi Munda was awarded the Padma Shri award in recognition of her undying spirit and sheer determination in eradicating illiteracy.

Shipibo Maestra Olivia Arevalo was murdered yesterday in Peru. She was shot in the heart. Maestra Olivia was a healer working with plant spirit medicines, using her soul filled voice, her power and beauty, to transform and make well the living creatures around her and the planet itself. My heart is filled with sadness today that such a woman could be violently stolen from this world. Not only is this heartbreaking but right under this post that someone had shared, a woman commented about how maybe it’s indigenous people’s approach to speaking out against these things that makes it harder for people to understand or care, maybe we are taking things “to personal” maybe the root of these racial problems is that we are “instilling hate towards white people in there little hearts” - I really just don’t understand how people can be so daft and delusional. Maestra Olivia was protesting peacefully, just like so many other indigenous people do and yet she was met with violence. What is your excuse now? What is your explanation?
#regram
@life_as_ceremony∆ PROTECT OUR ELDERS ∆
Today a treasured indigenous grandmother was killed. Murdered. Maestra Olivia a Shipibo leader. Seeing the photo of her bloody body I felt physically ill and my heart shattered into a million pieces. Tears, tears, tears.

These types of murders are not just the murders of a person. They are attempts at erasing & eradicating indigenous wisdom & ways of life. Colonization is still happening!

For those of you who so easily appropriate Indigenous culture & traditions, THIS is why it matters! This is what Indigenous people have been dealing with for thousands of years just for wanting to exist and keep their culture & traditions alive ! Waaaay before it was "trendy" to burn some sage and do cacao ceremony with your friends. (Etc)

You wanna call yourself a "Shamanic Priestess" because it sounds "spiritual" & "glamorous"? DON'T
You wanna do Ayahuasca in the city in a mansion to "find yourself"?
DON'T!
You have no idea. You are causing harm. You are part of the problem.

I'm just so devastated, sad and angry.

Heartbroken to hear this Angels’ life was tragically taken from us. On one end I am angry and deeply somber about this tragic news. On the other I know that her whole existence was proof of the power of the divine feminine and it’s unstoppable power. She is a symbol of The tipping of the scales and much needed re-balancing of this planet. She is Nourishment to this Earth. You can’t take this force away from our existence, she will live forever and be with us forever. She is all of our ancestors. For any of you familiar with Maestra Olivia’s Icaros, you know how deeply and quickly she takes us to our sweetness and strength. When her Icaros came to me I went through such a deep transition in my life, there are no words but all I know is that I feel her power. Prayers for swift justice. #maestraolivia #indigenousrising #justiciaparaolivia #divinefeminineenergyrising #Shipibo @indigenousrising @indigenousunited

“What’s the point of doing anything if it won’t make a difference? If no one ever did anything, nothing would ever get done.” -Unknown 🌱 The struggle for Standing Rock captured the imagination of people - indigenous and not - the world-over. It was not simply a modern tale of colonialism and imperialism seemingly straight from the history books, but also thanks to social media, a moment and a spark that ignited in the hearts of people the willingness to fight back, in every small and seemingly insignificant way, in a struggle to reclaim what belongs to indigenous peoples and protect water and this earth, which belongs to us all. Grateful for the women and men I know that have contributed to the #NoDAPL struggle, and grateful for those relatives that keep fighting in all ways, however small, against those threats to our collective existence and the planet we inhabit. #dharmadrishtiyoga #livewithpurpose #everythingcounts #truthtopower #indigenousrising #jan2017 #memories

Important >>> Share it and support. ✊🔥/\ Today was a powerful day at the United Nations Permanent Forum On Indigenous Issues, we sat down and listened to representatives from COICA. The Side Panel was called Situations of the Indigenous Defenders of human rights in the Amazon Basin. They gave us this video to post, please share it EVERYWHERE. Protectors of our Mother are being Murdered for standing up, hundreds upon hundreds a year, and the criminaliztaion of our protectors is out of control. Once our governments begin to label protectors as terrorists, what's next? We must continue to stand up and fight back, please Support COICA, they deserve our help. Thank you for all that you do.

Paired with a workshop and dialogue, Sínulhkay and Ladders examines everyday instances of colonial oppression, moves communities toward tangible change, and creates “brave space to ask what is next.” It’s a truly innovative and multifaceted project that invites us in with compassion, challenge, and playfulness. Thank you for your vision, @ms_nahanee.

“Decolonizing Practices will launch initially as a workshop for NGO, corporate and government groups who are ready to implement the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s Call to Action #92. The facilitated game and discussion will produce a set of commitments which are relevant to each organization. These will be delivered by experienced hosts within a tight knit team. A social impact fee will be included at this level to support the training of an activist level facilitation team who can bring the work to their communities. Watch our social media, and join our mailing list, for news of our full website launch on April 30!”

Meet the designer behind the Decolonizing Practices initiative, Michelle Lorna Nahanee (Squamish), “a creative director, critical communications scholar and Indigenous change maker. Michelle recently completed a Master of Arts in Communication from Simon Fraser University where she wrote “Decolonizing Identity: Indian Girl to Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Matriarch.” She concluded her research with a call to dismantle academic barriers to decolonizing practices.”

Follow their social media at @chenchenstway and facebook.com/decolonizing.practice. Launching April 30th!

I’m excited to share portraits of Squamish matriarch Michelle Nahanee, the brilliant mind behind the life-sized board game Sínulhkay and Ladders.

Based on the format of snakes and ladders, Sínulhkay and Ladders facilitates important and challenging conversations around indigenization, reconciliation, and decolonization. The experiential board game uses the symbol of the two-headed serpent Sínulhkay and grounds its teachings in Squamish ways.

For more info, check out their new Instagram at @chenchenstway, which means “to uphold one another in the Squamish language.”

I am committed to becoming a more beautiful dancer, to raising the name of the Akua, I see in my heart it is Pono. I am working to create a space to raise up the beauty of all of my people around me. RUN4SALMON NEWS!•
We made it to #Aotearoa New Zealand!
Thanks to your support, yesterday we released our young salmon, it felt so wonderful and we can hardly wait to do this in the Winnemem Waywakit, in our McCloud river waters. We are meeting as many people as we can to come back in June-July to help find the winter run salmon to collect samples. We are so happy to be moving forward with phase one of our historical restoration project and we are preparing for the phase two which will be testing the samples. We are taking the prayers seriously and listening to the prayers of fire and water and the Big Head Dances to dance our salmon home. Stay tuned for more updates of our trip on my facebook page! https://www.facebook.com/caleen.sisk
Thank you again for being with us on this journey to bring our salmon home. Now more than ever, we believe in the good things coming!

How many of us think we are doing our partners a favor by dropping our spiritual workbook on them, saying "enlighten yourself for me, please & thank you." How much pressure does that put on them & on ourselves? She also talked about real, deep friendships and becoming unafraid of intimacy; addicted to it.
