Okayyyy if you know me at all you know that I LOVE snacking. Like maybe more than anything else 🙈 and let me tell you, without snacks I am one hangry person 😂. So I made these energy bars to get me through the day! And I’m trying BEE POLLEN for the first time! 🐝

Recipe 👇
The goods: 1/3 C @sunbutter, 1/3 C natural pb and 2 Tbs coconut oil melted in a saucepan

Mix together 1 1/4 C rolled oats, 2 tbs ground flax seeds, 2 Tb chia seeds and 1/4 C puffed quinoa.

Add the melted pb mixture and combine with a handful of dried figs, goji berries and drizzle of honey and press into pan.

Topped with coconut shreds, almond slivers and BEE POLLEN! .

Perfect study snack: rosemary + sea salt sweet potato chips 🍠🌿😋 these are seriously addicting and so easy to make! Thinly slice a sweet potato, drizzle with olive oil and top with fresh rosemary, sea salt, garlic powder, and black pepper. Bake in the oven at 400F for about 25 mins (or until crispy), flipping them over half way through, and thats it👌🏼 I cannot get enough of these 😍 happy 🐪 dayyyy!

Reaspberry ICE cream - mix 1 banana, 250 g frozen raspberries and 2 tablespoons of Xylitol to sweeten it a bit together with 50 ml almond milk in a potential mixer and you receive a perfect and yummy ice cream!

* Intestinal Permeability-powerful noninvasive gastrointestinal test assessment of small intestinal absorption and barrier function in the bowel. The small intestine uniquely functions as a digestive/absorptive organ for nutrients as well as a powerful immune and mechanical barrier against excessive absorption of bacteria, food antigens, and other macromolecules. Both malabsorption and increased intestinal permeability ("leaky gut") are associated with chronic gastrointestinal imbalances as well as many systemic disorders.
Increased intestinal permeability (leaky gut) of the small intestine can:
* Increase the number of foreign compounds entering the bloodstream
* Allow bacterial antigens capable of cross-reacting with host tissue to enter the bloodstream, leading to auto-immune processes
* Enhance the uptake of toxic compounds that can overwhelm the hepatic detoxification system and lead to an overly sensitized immune system
Leaky gut has been observed in a range of disorders such as:
* Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)
* Food allergy
* Inflammatory joint disease
* Chronic dermatologic conditions
Studies have demonstrated that the increased intestinal permeability observed in patients with ankylosing spondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis, and vasculitis may be an important factor in the pathogenesis of these disorders.
Decreased permeability, on the other hand, appears as a fundamental cause of malabsorption, subsequent malnutrition, and failure to thrive. In certain disease states of the small intestine, such as gluten-sensitive enteropathy, permeability to large molecules may increase while permeability to small molecules decreases - a result of damage to the microvilli. As a result, nutrients become even less available to assist in the detoxification of antigens flooding the system.
Possible causes of increased intestinal permeability (leaky gut) include:
* Intestinal infection
* Ingestion of allergenic foods or toxic chemicals
* Deficient secretory IgA
* Trauma and endotoxemia
* NSAIDs

Have you guys ever struggled with binge eating? Emotional eating? I know I have. It started with hoarding and hiding food in elementary school and continued throughout high school and my early adult years. I got caught up in yo-yo dieting with extreme calorie restriction, losing weight, and then gaining it all back. I’d use food to help me feel better about being lonely, scared, indecisive, etc. It hasn’t been until recently that I learned to ditch the diet mentality and find a balanced, healthy lifestyle that isn’t difficult for me to maintain. I want to share this with you ladies! I’m going to be running a mindful eating group in a few weeks that focuses specifically on changing our MINDSET around food. No exercise required. I talk more about this in my story, but the gist is that it took Adam + I changing our eating habits before we ever remotely had the energy or motivation to get out hiking and exercising. Post work out strawberry banana protein chia pudding parfait 🙌 quite the mouthful title to spit out!

This was not from today however as I am sick on the couch but dreaming of getting back in the gym real soon🤞

This was basically like a dessert! Chia seed pudding base (coconut milk and chia seeds, let them sit together over night) and then a strawberry banana smoothie with a scoop of @cellucor strawberry milkshake protein powder

(***the ONLY time I use protein powder is after leg day... you do NOT need it to be healthy/fit, however it tastes delicious and is beneficial (but still not necessary to make progress)when you’re trying to put muscle mass on..hence why I only use it on leg day, cause 🍑🍑🍑)

Anyways top that bad boy with chocolate sauce and peanuts! I don’t know why I don’t see people using peanuts as a topping bc peanuts and chocolate are a great combo...

This is such an important message! I personally like to approach balance with adding rather than subtracting. Why do we need to take away {fill in the blank} to achieve health rather than just add too?! For example - feel like 🎂 for breakfast? Great! How about add 🥛+🍎 to help with your satiety (fullness) and avoid a crash in an hour. Simple, right? Not so much! As always, we kind and patient with yourself during this process ✨

One big difference between the diet approach and the better (ahem, non-diet) approach is that non-diet focuses on ADDING➕foods in rather than REMOVING➖them.

I hear so many people say things like, "I really want to eat healthier, so I need to start cutting out {insert favorite and tasty foods}."

Or, "I should eat more salad 🥗 and less {insert favorite and tasty food}."
.
.
👉🏼 But why? 🤔
👉🏼 Why do you have to remove something, just to add something in?
👉🏼 Why can't you eat both?
.

Diets ("clean eating", paleo, raw food, pick your poison) all have one thing in common: eliminate foods and even entire food groups, all in the name of "health" and "wellness."
.
.
But more often than not, this extreme approach only makes you feel SUPER DEPRIVED 😩 and CRAVING 🤪 all of the foods that you can no longer eat! Soon, these foods are all you can think about 😭 and you start to feel guilty that your "willpower" sucks. Eventually, you give out and maybe eat them in secret, all while feeling like a total failure. 😭😭😭

Smoked Salmon Tacos, oh how I love you. I have no shame in admitting I've eaten these tacos two nights in a row for dinner. I can't get enough! .

Alot of people are under the impression that eating healthy is expensive and time consuming. I'm here to bust that myth because on any given weeknight, I spend maybe 10 minutes in the kitchen. .

The key is to stock your pantry and fridge with vegetables, 3 different proteins, a prepared grain and a sauce. Boom! That's all she wrote. .

To make these tacos all you need is greek yogurt, smoked salmon, cucumbers and red onion. Pile everything onto a tortilla and dinner is served!

Healthy Kale and Quinoa bowl topped with egg with only 6 ingredients and under 30mins.☘️

Ingredients:
1 cup Quinoa
1 bunch kale stemmed
3 TBSP Olive oil
1 TBSP Lemon juice
Garlic
Salt and Pepper
__________
How:
Cook quinoa, In a saute pan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add kale and toss to coat. Add 1/4 cup water and cover, cooking for 3-5 minutes. Uncover, toss, and turn heat down to low. Let cook for another 10-15 minutes, until tender. Toss garlic, Salt and pepper to taste.
In a large serving bowl, toss the cooked quinoa with the kale , top with egg and serve.
I make this a lot and put it In the fridge for a few days. It makes an easy, delicious and healthy lunch.❤️

Feeling great today! 5 weeks of being an Intuitive Eater and I feel amazing! Both physically and mentally. The Triple A technique (if you wanna call it that) is a simple and direct way to apply mindfulness basics of presence without judgment to your goals and desires.

Let's set up a scenario shall we?
-

You are the average Utahn. -

Your high-paced job (that you are underpaid for), family of 15, and your offsprings' sport and music practices/lessons/tutoring/nonsense make your absurdly complicated diet even more absurdly difficult to follow (after all, how much broccoli can one person ACTUALLY eat?) THEN there's your aging dogs and their vet bills, your arguments with your spouse about putting down said dogs, and the 16th child you completely forgot about due to your busyness. Oh, and your in laws are moving in.

How do you apply the Triple A technique?
-

FIRST - ACKNOWLEGE the fact that you are overwhelmed, too busy, and probably needing rest. This step jolts you back to present and allows accurate thinking to take place. It also allows you to take an honest inventory of what you are doing and how it's affecting you. -

Second - ACCEPT these stressful situations as they aren't good and they aren't bad; they are JUST events. Sure, you left child number 16 somewhere; that doesn't make you bad, it's an event that makes sense from having 15 other kids. A broccoli diet doesn't make you good, it just makes you gassy. It also makes you miserable when it comes to mealtime. -

Third - ACTION; after you have thoroughly addressed what is going, create a commitment that will assist the situation. Consider what action you can complete to move torward that commitment. Make a commitment toward calm and peace. Put those new in-law roommates to work. Make a decision on the dog. Listen to the Therapy Thoughts podcast and follow @mindfulcounseling to figure out this broccoli thing. And use some of your newly acquired free time to find child number 16.

I used to be all about low carb, no fat, diet pop, and whatever other "diet" thing was out there.

Frick, I didn't know at the time that all these things I was doing were actually not helping me in my health journey 🤷. #liveandlearn .

It's taken many years to figure out what works and what doesn't work for me...everyone is different and there is not a 1 fits all thing out there. .
.
What I can tell you, is that if you learn to nourish your body 🍇🍊🍐🥝🥩 and move it daily 🏋️️ you will reach your goals and better yet, you will feel and look healthier. .
.
I no longer count calories or avoid food. Balanced nutrition for me is where it's at 💯..which means I eat burgers 🍔 and pizza 🍕 and I don't feel bad about it, but it's also not excessive. #foodislife .
.

This was from a while ago- I’m not currently eating avocados because I think I developed a sensitivity to them BUT! This is a great way to pack a balanced meal that will keep you satisfied for hours.
I took a protein source (it’s beef head cheese because I’m bizarre, but you can sub anything else), a fat source (half an avocado) and a carb source (cinnamon-roasted sweet potato rounds) and tossed them in a glass tupperware. I threw in some sauerkraut (fermented veggies are so great for you) and sprinkled some hemp seeds.
When packing meals, keep things as SIMPLE as possible.

A sűrű napokon nehéz olyan étkezeseket betervezni, amelyek támogatják testünket. Legalábbis nekem gyakran fejtörést okoz 🙆
💡Erre hoztam egy ötletet:

A húst és basmati rizset 🍚 előre készítettem el, így a következő napokon csak mellé dobtam azokat a zöldségeket amiket épp kívántam (vagy ami épp otthon volt). Az enyemben most bébi spenót 🌱, reszelt répa, lencse, paradicsom 🍅, paprika és hanyma került.
Recept a raguhoz:
1 evőkanál kókuszolajon zöldhagymát pirítottam majd hozzáadtam 500g darált húst. Fehéredésig pároltam majd fűszereztem sóval, borssal, kakukkfűvel, egy apróra vágott 🍅 al, 2 evőkanál mustárral, 1dl fehérborral (nem ezen bulik a diéta), majd 10 percig pároltam. Ez nekem három adagra lett elég. 😋👌 Írd meg, ha kipróbálod 😊

I prepared the meat and the basmati rice 🍚 earlier, so on the following days I just added the veggies that I was craving (or which I had at home). This time I used baby spinach 🌱, some grated carrots, lentils, tomatoes 🍅, peppers and onions.
Recipe for the stew:
I toasted some spring onions on 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, then I added in 500g of minced meat. I steamed it until it become white, then I seasoned it with salt, pepper and thyme, added some diced tomatoes 🍅, 2 tablespoon of mustard, 1dl of white wine (diet won't be ruined because of this), then I cooked it for 10 minutes.
This makes 3 servings in my case. So I’ve started a Low FODMAP “regime”.

disclaimer - yes regime is my fancy work for diet. Diet to me sounds limited and not so fun. .
While this is changing what I’m choosing to eat - I’m doing it because my entire body and soul wants to. I want to feel better. I want to heal my digestion and not feel bloated.

The beauty of diets like this that are done to figure out what’s going on is that they are designed to first be short term. Then we GET TO figure out what actually doesn’t feel good for our body when we slowly re introduce things.

Gluten free and dairy free living is great for me. But I’m still feeling crappy. My super smart sister @justinedowd.phd first told me about FODMAP’s and how these might be causing extra bloating.

FODMAP’s are fermentable short chain carbohydrates that are found in all sorts of random items - garlic and onions being some of the most prominent.
.
When we want to change our diet it’s so easy to focus on everything we can’t eat. What about choosing to focus on everything we get to eat. It’s so exciting and new. And maybe your main goto’s are on the “not good right now” list. But now you get to try new things!!

A sűrű napokon nehéz olyan étkezeseket betervezni, amelyek támogatják testünket. Legalábbis nekem gyakran fejtörést okoz 🙆
💡Erre hoztam egy ötletet:
▪️gyors

A húst és basmati rizset 🍚 előre készítettem el, így a következő napokon csak mellé dobtam azokat a zöldségeket amiket épp kívántam (vagy ami épp otthon volt). Az enyemben most bébi spenót 🌱, reszelt répa, lencse, paradicsom 🍅, paprika és hanyma került.
Recept a raguhoz:
1 evőkanál kókuszolajon zöldhagymát pirítottam majd hozzáadtam 500g darált húst. Fehéredésig pároltam majd fűszereztem sóval, borssal, kakukkfűvel, egy apróra vágott 🍅 al, 2 evőkanál mustárral, 1dl fehérborral (nem ezen bulik a diéta), majd 10 percig pároltam. Ez nekem három adagra lett elég. 😋👌 Írd meg, ha kipróbálod 😊

I’m reading a fabulous book about the science behind Intuitive Eating and I am blown away at the research. Did you know that studies show that your body has a natural set point? And it’s gonna do whatever it needs to to get you there. No matter how skinny you get, the second you start eating “normal” again, your body with regain the weight. Sound familiar?? And because you’ve messed with your hormones and the way your brain listens to your body, you’ll probably gain TOO much weight back. There ARE people who have success with diets. Short term. But 90% of those people will regain the weight they lost within 2 years.😳

Overweight people don’t have problems with self control, they’ve just been on too many diets. I know because I used to be one of them.🙋🏼‍♀️ So stop blaming yourself and start blaming the real cause of all your problems: DIETING.

I’ve realized I go through seasons of obsession. I was super into ultrarunning for two years, then yoga, then I got into lifting weights, now I’m obsessed with jujitsu and headstands!! 🌀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Shrimp scampi pasta and zoodles galore! Here’s how it’s done:
▪️Cook shrimp on both sides in olive oil until it starts changing color.
▪️Add in minced garlic and sauté for a few min.
▪️Throw in 1/3 stick of butter and sprinkle red pepper flakes.
▪️Deglaze the pan with some Chardonnay/white wine of your choice.
▪️Squeeze fresh lemon juice and zest, and s/p to taste.
▪️Add in your zoodles (I use @inspiralized And love it) and noodles.
▪️Top it off with some Parmesan cheese and fresh parsley and enjoy!! Recipe from @byrontalbott !

Maybe not technically "toast" BUT.... I have these toasty homemade Pop Tarts!! Totally counts for #ToastTuesday, right?🤔🤣

Seriously I don't even know where to start with these yummy gluten free vegan (and paleo friendly too) Pop Tarts that just magically happened this morning. Swipe to see the delicious homemade raspberry chia jam filling and Instagram vs real life (already had coffee so grabbed my @rebbl Turmeric Tuesday as I was sore from 3 days of intense barre and out the door like old school Pop Tarts only taking the girls to school not going myself). I came back from dropping off the girls to snap a picture after we tested them earlier. Maybe not as quick as the 2 minute toaster version but whipped these up in under 20 and the hardest part was letting them cool for a couple minutes before adding pretty piyaya pink icing and sprinkles. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The girls were home from school yesterday and Pop Tarts came up. I don't think A👱‍♀️ has ever had them and S👧 remembers having them once or twice when she was younger I guess. I'm not one to shelter the girls and went to pick them up a box so A could try them but reading the box I was like ummm I'm going to try to make some and so easy. Need a little tweaking maybe, I don't remember was the actual pastry sweet? I tweaked my Camp Crackers aka Graham Crackers (recipe on the blog)  to make these. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
