Breakfast from the other morning!
The other night I went to a feral cat rescue organization meeting to see if there was a way I could I help out! I originally heard about this organization on Facebook, and was actually interested is adopting one of the kittens! My parents were on board until they found out the kitten was born feral. He (and the rest of the litter) were already socialized and had all their veterinary care in check, but that didn’t help in convincing my parents. Anyways, I ended up going to the meeting with a friend from college and we decided to volunteer to be part of the board! I used to volunteer quite often, so I’m excited to start again! (Plus, I get to hangout with super cute kittens)! 💜

The doctor didn’t diagnose her dangerously inflamed bile duct, but he did, out of nowhere, suggest that she’d get better if she stopped eating so much fried chicken. “He managed to denigrate my fatness and my blackness in the same sentence,” she says. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
...All of this makes higher-weight patients more likely to avoid doctors. Three separate studies have found that fat women are more likely to die from breast and cervical cancers than non-fat women, a result partially attributed to their reluctance to see doctors and get screenings. Erin Harrop, a researcher at the University of Washington, studies higher-weight women with anorexia, who, contrary to the size-zero stereotype of most media depictions, are twice as likely to report vomiting, using laxatives and abusing diet pills. Thin women, Harrop discovered, take around three years to get into treatment, while her participants spent an average of 13 and a half years waiting for their disorders to be addressed.

Headed down to #Bellingham with the lovely @journeytofit.yvr today and rounded out the full cultural experience today at @bwwings with these hot wings loaded with nacho toppings. Like, this is simultaneously the most extra and genius thing I have ever seen in my life.

As always, I'm shocked at our southern neighbours' portion sizes! I ordered a medium and she got a large, and neither of us could finish our meals. Thank goodness for leftovers!

Ready to roll? What’s your goal? If it’s weight loss I can guarantee you 10-15lbs GONE by the end of the year, but are you willing to make a few adjustments to what you’ve always done? I don’t want to do my food log/journal - but I also want to fit into my jeans from pre-baby, so which wins? The feeling of not wanting to squish into my clothes or the feeling of staying lazy with what I know works? We can do this together, even if we aren’t perfect, even if we only do five days of logging out of the week that’s still five more days that we’re learning about our bodies and what works for us. Sure, treat yourself on weekends , by eating out once in a while , or trying a dessert 🍮 from the new coffee shop that just opened in your neighbourhood. What I mean to say with this quote is that even thought it’s the weekend aka party time , you shouldn’t lose control 😃 Because you worked so hard during the week. Don’t make it disappear 😘 I have a treat meal once a week. Or sometime, I treat myself everyday , but with smaller things. For example , eating a small spoon of #nutella with my #oatmeal in the morning.

The first thing people ask when they hear I’m a Nutritionist is usually something about what kind of diet I follow. Most of the time people ask if I’m vegetarian or if I approve of whatever diet trend they currently think is working for them.
As part of my training I learned about all the diets (painstakingly so), and yeah some are bound to improve health outcomes compared to what the majority of people are currently doing. But I don’t follow any one protocol.
What do I do instead? I ask my body what it needs. I trust that she actually knows better than any expert (especially one who has never even met me). She lives this life with me and SHE KNOWS WHAT IS BEST. I can’t stress this enough. Building a relationship with your body from a place of respect and trust is POWERFUL. The problem isn’t food, or our bodies. It’s how we’ve been taught to see them. As if some diet will ‘fix us’ or make us more loveable. What we really need is to stop looking outside ourselves for the answers and seek the wisdom that’s within.
When was the last time you asked your body what it needed?
And... when was the last time you listened?

Our favourite local cafe @727coffeeandfood has been through some really tough times lately; recently having to close their doors whilst their son was in hospital with complications of Type I diabetes.
Type I diabetes is a long time health condition requiring daily consistent monitoring. Everyday nearly 6 Australians are diagnosed with Type I diabetes, most of them children. Currently there is no cure.
We wanted to show our support to raise much-needed funds for their chosen charity @jdrfaus. JDRF accelerate life-changing breakthroughs in the hope to cure, treat and prevent Type I diabetes and it’s complications.
Come along to Goodlife Rothwell tomorrow morning from 6:30am - 9:30am for a breakfast BBQ, healthy snacks, competitions and prizes to help raise money! Our friends from @hit105brisbane Black Thunders will also be there to help raise some much needed funds!
I’ll be there bright and early with some healthy samples from @chobaniau yoghurt, @thehappysnackcompany and @farmerjomuesli 😋

Sometimes you just crave fries...and there is nothing wrong with giving into your cravings! This is by far my favorite combo: @alexiafoods Organic Oven Fries with Sea Salt coupled with @webergrills Steak ‘n Chop Seasoning! A must try for sure! Why do I always choose organic potatoes? Because potatoes have many pests and diseases that can attack them, they are one of the most pesticide/herbicide-ridden foods. Conventional potatoes can contain numerous carcinogens, hormone disruptors, neurotoxins and developmental/reproductive toxins. For potatoes, I recommend you choose organic! ❤️

'Twas a simple dinner tonight: Salmon {seasoned with salt, pepper, capers, and lemon juice} baked at 350 for appr. 20 minutes, one sweet potato {seasoned with salt, pepper, and a 1/4 of an avocado mixed into it - I swear it's delicious 😋} and baked at 450 for appr. 50 minutes, and steamed broccoli {seasoned with...you guessed it! Salt and pepper! 😄}. •••••••
Soooo.. real talk: I have not been my best lately, at anything. And I know it's not good to put yourself down. That's not what I'm trying to do, although I usually am pretty hard on myself. But I have been less than kind to others, myself, and my body and that is unnecessary. I think a lot of it stems from stress. There's a lot going on right now, but I know that I could be handling it better. I haven't been doing things like going to the yoga/running/hiking that I absolutely LOVE to do. Exercise is my outlet. I don't know how to relieve stress any other way. But with school and work and getting ready for my brother's wedding, I haven't felt the energy or drive to do it. Exercise is work. But, today I went to the gym and ran 3 miles and I cannot explain to you the sense of relief I felt.. the weight {pun intended} lifted off my shoulders. I know that exercise is the answer. As much as healthy eating is a contributor to feeling at peace with myself.. movement is by far my biggest asset, the greatest remedy for my uneasiness. And I need to prioritize it just as much as I do school, work, and everything else. I am still feeling the runners high. And I have the choice to feel this good. And I choose yes.. for me.
P.S. Apologies for the vent session there. I just had to write my feelings somewhere and this seemed like a pretty good spot.
P.P.S. Always put yourself first. Make your own happiness a priority. YOU are worth it.

Y’all I love fruits and veggies—I really do. But I don’t post about them too often because people aren’t afraid of fruits and vegetables. They know that they are “good” for you. Fruits + veggies are celebrated, praised, and even idolized, one might say, by foodies and fitness fanatics alike.

What most people aren’t able to see are the nutritional AND physiological AND psychological benefits that can be seen from consuming foods that are historically feared and demonized by diet culture. .

Fruits + veggies provide us with lots of vitamins and minerals, but most of them provide us which very little energy. This is a problem bc we need energy every single minute of every single day to live our best life. The healthiest diet you can consume is one that encompasses a wide VARIETY of foods, some that are rich in vitamins and minerals, others that are rich in energy and taste. So veggies are good for you.... but so are cookies. 🤷🏼‍♀️
