The last addition to the collection for a while (thankfully, my wallet was screeching its head off). A 1981 Momo Jackie Stewart Signature . I've been searching on and off for about a year now, trawling Yahoo Auctions and eBay, never finding one that wasn't in awful shape, overpriced, or both. I found this one on eBay for an awesome price (after some nail-biting bidding). It was exactly what I wanted, a wheel with some patina to show for its decades of service, but still in great, original condition.
This example came off a Ford XE Falcon, having sat in the previous owner's shed for some years. The leather is still in great shape and the signature is clearly visible.
I see the hype behind these now, and why they command the prices they do - the wheel has a presence to it. The spokes are thick and weighty, and the glove-soft leather grip ever so thick. With prices skyrocketing I'm glad I got in when I did
This one also has an oddity in the form of an "ERROR" stamped into the back face. Can anyone shed some light on this? There aren't any visible errors that I can spot, or maybe they've just been covered up by 37 years of use.
