There’s “rusty gold” in them thar hills and I’m lovin it. The Wall Street Mill trail was chock full of vintage remnants. Bill Keys (1879-1979). owner of the mill, miner, rancher and entrepreneur extraordinaire was also an organized and meticulous packrat. He collected anything that might someday, in someway, be useful.....tools, bolts, screws, entire structures, cars and car parts would be brought back to the Desert Queen Ranch. Keys built his ranch house, an elementary school, dug wells, created irrigation systems and could fix anything you can think of. Keys ranch eventually became part of Joshua Tree National Park in 1994 when it was elevated from being a national monument to national park.
