Our mission couldn’t exist without our amazing volunteers who continuously donate their time and energy to our cause. Today we want to highlight DIL Volunteer, Sanam Azeem. Sanam is the jack of all trades in the performing arts industry. She is the founder, choreographer, and a performer at 'Sanam Studios Dancers.' Sanam is also an actress, producer, model, host, and was the first ever Mrs. Pakistan International in 2013.
Sanam has been involved with DIL since 2012. Sanam was the former DIL Atlanta Chapter president and continues to make a difference as a volunteer. When asked what inspired her to get involved with DIL, she shares, “Education has played a big role in my life, and Pakistan is where my journey in education began. I was blessed to go to a private school, but like many of us, I witnessed first-hand the poverty and despair faced by families and children on the street. Watching children my age beg for food and money broke my heart on a daily bases. They would look at my school uniform and I could tell they wished they were in my shoes, if even for a day. I knew then I wanted to help these kids have a better life. All children deserve an education. After I received a degree in computer science, I worked in IT for several years, independently paying my expenses as well as honing my skills as a professional dancer. Had I not received an education, I wouldn't have able to accomplish anything I enjoy doing now. I just want other women and children to have the same opportunities I've been blessed with. The only way to achieve is through education. What motivates me to stay involved is seeing the results of our efforts in those children's smiles, their grades, and their accomplishments.” Sanam inspires all of us at DIL. Thank you, Sanam, for your kindness and devotion to our mission and for truly making a difference in the lives of thousands of children across Pakistan. We couldn’t do it without you!
