Hands down, the best concert of the year.
Because this is what PRIVILEGE looks like. .
Tonight I was invited to play a concert at the children refugee Christmas party here in Nuremberg. I walked in with my Santa hat, guitar, a Fox and Polar Bear to a room full of wild love. As I begun to play little warriors crawled up under my guitar to listen and as I looked down into the eyes of the most gorgeous, warm, loving children, what hit me deeply was the idea that I was looking into the eyes of the next generation. A generation of children that will soon grow up with stories of experiences that will forever shape our world. Stories of pain and brokenness that have the power to reshape and rebuild a new world. Stories of displacement that can position and birth a new heritage. Stories of loss that can establish a new found. And stories of destruction that have the opportunity to be stories of restoration. As I looked into those eyes, I wholeheartedly believed that our current generation has now, the opportunity and the responsibility to transform the word "displaced" into the word "redeemed". And I for one want to be part of that revolution. These children are still here. They are not old or fake or irrelevant news. They are children. Who all sat patiently after the music for their little gift under the Christmas tree. Who all laughed and giggled when the polar bear danced. Who all love Christmas. A holiday that reminds us to hold onto hope. I ended tonights set, probably the last one of the year, with the appropriate song "We Will Be Ok." A song my Syrian friends have claimed as "their" song. A song to remind us that no matter what this world takes away from you. It can never take your hope. And that is what sparkled in this little generations eyes tonight "HOPE." After all they have seen. All they have been through. THEY hold the hope of our world. .
A big shout out to my friend, colleague @thewhiterabbitarts and hero @uteschlegel and her staff for the incredible work you are doing day and night for these families. You are keeping that hope flaming and we all need more lions like you!
