Perhaps Kensington Palace is most famously known for being the home of Diana, Princess of Wales and the childhood home of William and Harry. Currently, Kensington Palace is home to over 50 people, including royals and civilians. Notably, the most famous of these residents include: Prince William, Catherine the Duchess of Cambridge, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and baby #3, who was born today. As well as, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, Prince Edward and his wife Katharine, Prince Richard, the Duke of Gloucester, and his wife, Birgitte; and apparently Princess Eugenie is planning to move to Ivy Cottage at Kensington Palace from her shared apartment at St. James’s Palace with Beatrice. For those of you wondering, regular civilians can rent at Kensington Palace for market value. I’m sure that privilege comes with a hefty price tag!
In recent history, there was controversy over Prince and Princess Michael of Kent’s apartment at Kensington where they have lived for over twenty years, as it was revealed that the Queen had been paying the majority of their rent out of her personal finances in return for their charitable contributions they had funded without public contributions, from 2002-2010. Now, according to a quick Google search, the Prince and Princess now pay the reasonable price of £120 000 a year for a small property, Apartment 10 (I am not sure how accurate that price is now, 8 years later).
