Is it a pig? Is it an elephant? No, It's a Malayan Tapir!
Working with children I have come to realise so many aren't familiar with the wide variety of animals our world carries. I've bought a tapir out before and all of the children thought it was a pig. They thought the sloth was a monkey and the red panda was a fox. I can see the similarities, but there are also a lot of differences.
Introducing the differences and complexities of our world to children is a wonderful gift to them, and our future.
More from Illustoria: Fun facts: did you know that Malayan Tapirs can grow to weigh over 720 pounds? They can also walk underwater for long periods of time, whistle, and use their oddly shaped snouts grabbing things like tasty leaves or as an underwater snorkel Sadly, these fun loving mammals are classified as Endangered due to habitat loss and hunting Go to tapirs.org to learn more more about tapir conservation.
