Belfast Sculptor, Tony Currie, launches a crowd funding appeal to raise £40,000 to finance the making of a life size bronze statue of the Belfast footballing genius George Best.
It is intended that the sculpture will be located at Belfast’s International Football Stadium, Windsor Park and an agreement is in place with Belfast City Council regarding the siting of the sculpture at that location.
The appeal commences on Tuesday 22 May 2018 which would have been George’s 72nd birthday.
You are invited to become involved in this tribute to one of Belfast's greatest sporting heros who was described by the great Pelé as "The greatest player in the world"
If you are moved when you see those images of George playing football, take this chance to be involved in a little part of history by making a donation to the crowd funding appeal.
If the target of £40,000 is reached, any surplus (less web site fees) will be donated, in line with a family wish, to "The Harry Gregg Foundation". Please go to https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/the-george-best-memorial-sculpture-fund for full details and how you can contribute.
