What a debatable subject. Why so? Because women experience periods differently. Let’s just say things as they are : some of us are a tad luckier than the others. Some of us don’t get bloated. Don’t need a million pads or tampons (say one per day for a total of three days?). Don’t get grumpy. Actually, don’t feel that periods are that big of deal a all! I guess those ladies have no problem lifting weight at the gym on their first day, jogging in the parc and doing complex inversions during power yoga classes.
Well what can I say - I’m not one of them. I’m on the other very extreme side of the pole. Yup. Who’s with me? I’m somebody who would vote to give women two days off work during period days. I get friggin emotional, slightly bitchy, grumpy, upset. I need a trillion pads to keep me safe day and night. I get excruciatingly painful cramps that leave me no choice but to sit down (or better lay down). I once nearly fainted at work in front of a client due to one of those cramps. I obviously lost that sale. .
So to answer the above question - I don’t go yoga while on my period. No. I don’t do anything. I just lay down whenever the occasion presents itself. Especially on the first two days. Because I can hear my body scream : “Gimme some goddamn rest woman!”. And so, I listen, and I obey. If I’m extremely lucky and my period is not as painful and I am feeling somewhat upbeat I do attempt #yinyoga - which again is an occasion to lay down and rest.
During our periods our bodies are working hard on cleansing, detoxifying and rejuvenating our organism. So I personally believe that it’s best to take time off to meditate, read, write or do anything else non-physical to nurture our spirit...
