Are you armed with the right tools to take on Plastic Free July?! What plastic products will you try to ditch next month?
For me, it's cutting back on any plastic-packaged vegan foods I buy occationally, and cooking substitutes at home.
After trying different bamboo tooth brushes, my favorite is @brushwithbamboo. I've been using a Merkur safety razor for over 2 years with Shark razor blades (they come wrapped in paper). I bought both on Amazon: the razor handle and 100 blades cost me less than $35 using my family's Prime account. (Thanks, mom!) And I'm not even half way through my first box of blades.
These two reusable products are #zerowaste game changers. The average American will throw away over 300 plastic toothbrushes in their lifetime. These can't break down or biodegrade, so they sit in landfills, end up in the ocean, and wreak environmental havoc. But bamboo toothbrushes can be composted, upcycled, or burned in a fireplace. They cost more but you'll save tons of money by eliminating disposable razors.
It is estimated that 2 billion razors are thrown away each year in America. Add in blades and packaging and wasted money... A single metal handle can last you a lifetime. And one box of blades can last 5+ years depending on frequency of shaving and care of blades. And blades can be recycled via the mail! I linked a previous post with everything you want to know about safety razors. Peep the bio.
