Relax, Yankees fans!! Shreve gets out of it! The Yankees win the second game of the series by a score of 7-6, the bats came alive and pitching was solid. A big four run inning in the fourth puts the Yankees past the Mets. After being down 1-0, Didi Gregorius ties things up with a RBI triple. Back-to-back doubles following the triple puts the Yanks on top 3-1. Miguel Andújar and Greg Bird are responsible for the doubles. Austin Romine continues to executive with RISP with an RBI single to bring home Bird, that gave the Yanks their fourth run of the day. Bird continues to stay hot with another RBI hit in the sixth, adding another to the lead. Aaron Judge clobbers one into the Mets bullpen for a solo shot. Austin Romine’s groundout in the eighth brings home Andújar, making it a four run lead.
A step in the right direction for Sonny Gray, but he definitely still needs to improve upon this start. His line: 5.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 6 K. Robertson, Holder, and Betances all combined for 2.2 scoreless innings, five strikeouts recorded between the three. Aroldis Chapman struggled terribly in the ninth, walking in a run and hitting a batter to force in a run. Chasen Shreve came in CLUTCH. He relieved Chapman and sent down the Mets in order, holding onto the one run lead. He recorded his first save of the season!
