As I enter my second month of trading I’d like to say a big hi to all you guys thank you for following me & to share the 4 reasons I set up #plasticfreepartybags .
Plastic in our oceans. Last year I started examining how much plastic I was using day-to-day after coming across the term #zerowaste, hearing about the plastic whale & also seeing photos of pollution in Bali. The beaches I’d visited as a child now resembled rubbish dumps & I felt heartbroken but also inspired to make changes. The plastic filled party bags that my daughter was bringing home started to stick out like a sore thumb in our home & as I couldn’t find an alternative source online I started PFPBs! .
. I watched The True Cost movie also last year, which shocked me to the core about how little we consider the impact of our throw away shopping habits on the people who produce our goods, as well as the environment & communities across the globe. It changed the way I see cotton farming, how garment workers suffer, fast fashion & my personal responsibility to make better choices when shopping. If it’s too cheap someone else paid a price. Our bags & toys are Fairtrade - this is as important as them being free of single use plastic. .
For the animals. So many party bags include animal products & it can be very frustrating. There are no animal products in our bags - no dairy, gelatine, felt, wool, leather, fur, silk or feathers. Their skin & their bodies, not ours.
My daughter & your children too. There are already places I’ve been to that in one generation have been destroyed by pollution & my daughter will never get to see the beauty that once was. They are paying the price for our bad habits & so it’s up to us to try and fix what we can for them.
It’s been amazing connecting with other plastic-free parents and people who care about our planet. I’m learning so much from your posts & applying it to the business to make it the best it can be - thank you. I hope too that my little shop can be part of something much bigger & that it’s just one of many ways that enables people to make kinder choices for everyday purchases
