I cannot lie. I am feeling overwhelmed with grief over the van attack on so many in Toronto. I absolutely LOVE this city for its diversity, openness, and love. I have always felt safe in Toronto, even at 3am. The way this was handled after the fact is testament to the great city we live in.

So many of our clients come to us feeling defeated by their own guilt and shame set by arbitrary definitions of perfection. .
There is no perfect and there is no muscle for willpower. .

Around 2012 I went through a rough few years. My husband had cancer for the second time. I was having trouble trying to conceive and through the tests they found an ovarian cyst. I had surgery (and also had my gall bladder removed after suffering with that for 2 years) and then 3 months later got pregnant with our daughter. During my pregnancy I broke my ankle during the period we were showing our house and trying to move.
All of this, plus an enormous amount of other stressors led to adrenal fatigue and depression. For well over a year I was not a functioning human being without 16oz of espresso in the morning and more caffeine throughout the day.
I was miserable. I was stuck in a massive, dark hole of exhaustion and depression. The depression also fed on exhaustion. And to this day I notice that if I’m very tired I will also tend to be depressed as well.
And so I got into a habit of thinking to myself “ugh I’m so depressed”. It just played on repeat in my head over and over. Anytime I didn’t really have the capacity to think about other things, this is what would come up.

When I first started my business 15 years ago, I taught many classes on the topic of decluttering and loved introducing people to my Declutter Triangle. We have been discussing this in the ASPIRE Success Club lately as well, and I thought I would share a simple overview with you.

Clutter comes in many forms, 3 biggies being space (paper, piles, stuff), mind (circling worries, to-do’s, negative thought patterns), and life (an overbooked calendar with no breathing space, for example). Clutter in any of these forms can weigh us down.
.
But no matter where you choose to start DEcluttering - space, mind, or life - the other areas tend to lighten up as well. Plus, you will likely become more proactive in your decisions around what you allow to enter your space, mind, and life in the first place. Win-win!
.
The key is to *decide and take action.* Choose one place to begin clearing away what holds you back - empty one drawer, let go of one committee, begin a journaling practice to free up mental space. Decide, then do.

It’s so important that we give ourselves time to just be silly. We need, on such a basic level, to be able to laugh at ourselves, to get in touch with our inner weirdo. .
.
Take a minute to appreciate what’s going on in this photo. Someone who was incredibly skilled at crochet spent WEEKS using their craft to make a huge taco, a hamburger, and an ice cream cone. It’s absurd. Its ridiculous. It’s amazing. .
.
There’s this temptation to think that our work always has to be serious, make sense, be commercially viable...that if we can’t make money or check something off of a to-do list, we shouldn’t put too much time and effort into a project. .
.
I call BS on that. Because I can tell you that whoever took the time to crochet these gigantic snack items made themselves smile and made me smile and made who knows how many other people smile. And that’s gold right there. You can’t put a price tag on that kind of joy. .
.
Today, give yourself a little space to be silly. Doodle a cartoon, make a statue out of paper clips, write a poem about a dizzy hedgehog wearing overalls. Who cares if it makes sense or makes money or makes a great story. Just be silly. Be you. Be happy for this ridiculous and glorious moment in your life. 😋

The only thing I love more than a very smart question, is the person who asks that question.
Whenever I’m at an event or meet with someone, I always feel drawn to people who don’t speak too much and more of an observer. They have such great listening skills and because of this they always ask the most intelligent questions.
This skill is the first thing I’ve learnt during my coaching training and the most powerful coaches have the same quality/skill in common which is listening.

Labels only limit our abilities and tell us that we cannot fully achieve:
“He is naughty” or “She cannot write properly” tells a child that they have reached their end point and that is all that they will amount to. It also limits us as parents into thinking we cannot help our children develop. .
Instead teach your children alternatives to negative behaviour and tell your child they might not be able to write “yet”, teaching them that their learning and development is limitless and they can always improve at their own paces.
