The weight ranges should be in the upper limit of your strength while keeping the rest as short as possible (1:30 and under) to work the metabolic conditioning as well. 😓 (Also I’m aware that on my warmup set my hips are lagging and rotation late, hence the warmup to assess small mechanical changes. Well everything happens for a reason, right? 40mi into a 3,200mi hike I rolled my ankle, and damn did I roll it. Rolled it two more times, matter of fact! Each roll beating the last with how much I can stretch the ligaments and further damage what has already been obliterated. A couple days later, with 130 miles in the bag (90 on a badbadnotgood ankle) and many more to go....I had to call it. (warning: a foot & ankle can swell to ridiculous proportions in the Canadian wilderness )
The coming months will definitely be a test of my sanity. These days will also teach me to be humble and realize the insane opportunity I had which many other folks can only dream about. I will heal slowly but surely. this too shall pass. The siren calls of the Canyons in the SW still ring in my ears. For in October, I will carry on and explore their depths. Shucks. Wish I could give y’all some better news. But ya know what they say... Sometimes you eat the bar, and well, sometimes the bar eats you. #canada2canyons #proprioception #badluck

Proprioception If you Google “How many #proprioceptors are in the foot?” you will find articles that state 200,000 , 400,000 and 720,000 making the feet the highest nerve engorged limb on the body and yet they are never talked about. Take your pick of which number you believe to be accurate but there can be no doubt that there is a reason and function for these proprioceptors.  The answer to #injuries , balance/falls and an athletes inability to reach peak performance has ben right in front of us all this time.

“When you run or play your eyes are not on the ground ,they are out along the path , field or track. You read the ground through your proprioceptive #ability (feet reading the ground knowing where your body is in space) . If your proprioception is weak , then you do not read the ground as effectively as you should. Decreased proprioception will increase ground contact time thus SLOWING all #performance. “
“All movement is touch and go.  Forward, backward, side to side, it is all basically touch and go. As your foot touches the ground all eccentric movement happens.  Eventually when fully loaded you will stabilize and then all #concentric #movement happens. This is the preverbal “Load and Explode” . It is the stabilization period that is most affected by proprioception. This is the hidden SOLE (Sensation of the Lower Extremity) . #Athletes are “good at compensating”  for deficits or training/breaking (70% per year ) the compensatory system but they are never as effective while doing so.
The #goodnews is, no matter what the  #proprioceptive ability of a athlete or runner is ,it can be trained and #improved.

Proprioception is the sense of the relative position of one's own parts.

With injuries around a joint this ability can often be compromised.

Research shows that this is particularly the case with ankle sprains.

One of the reasons ankle injuries can tend to reoccur is due to this loss of proprioception and a failure to rebuild this ability.

You can work on this by exposing the ankle to instability challenges such as single leg standing and marching - as seen here.

Although it may seem slightly intense to stare into the mirror while doing this, it can be helpful. Using visual feedback to keep the correct form during these tasks is important in reestablishing the proprioceptive network.

Abdominal strength & flexibility combo. L-sit to German hang & slow pike return.
Great combo for integrating abdominal strength into flexibility training (or patterns requiring a greater ROM). German hangs are fantastic for increasing shoulder ROM in extension as some degree of force production is demanded throughout the hang which keeps the motor cortex engaged throughout the process ➡️ one important step in the process of increasing the permanency of any new range gained.
Gravity is actually fantastic for assistance in this one, to help hold a pike position for as long as possible & build the strength necessary to begin to hold it in other positions. It’s a great technique to utilize the weight of the legs to improve your active ROM in this position.
It’s also a hugely beneficial thing just to interact with gravity in movements & planes other than those associated with our day to day habituated patterns. Superwoman like things on your back that I’m experimenting with. Basically this one is about learning to use the deep core/breath to create space in and stabilize the ribcage and back. Balloon your breath through your entire back and back ribcage, exhale move hands and slide feet away from each other. Keep the back ribcage pressing firmly into the floor while using the exhale to slowly hug in the belly from all directions, lift pelvic floor and firm a cylinder around the midsection so that the breathing diaphragm and pelvic floor line up with each other and transverse abdominis and lower back muscles firm together. The ribs should not flare open and the belly and the lower back aren’t concave or bulging or straining. In this version I don’t deliberately press my low back down to create stability, but in the process of breathing and firming with my deeper core muscles to create this cylinder around the midsection, the low back muscles are working to stabilize the lower back from extending and lifting off the floor. This is useful for people who have disc or SI joint issues like me because flattening or rounding the back to stabilize the core is not a great option. Instead, this helps stabilize the core to lengthen the back muscles and get the spine as long as possible without flexing. Only extend the hips and straighten the legs to the extent that you can keep this cylinder like core action. Inhale balloon out the whole core without lifting the back off the floor and exhale do the same action to slowly bring the hands and feet closer to the starting point. This is great for learning spinal/core stability and control for life, yoga/movement things, weight training, etc. Its especially useful for squats, because I have a tendency to over extend my lumbar spine on the way up, and this helps strengthen the lower back muscles in a way that helps me keep the lumbar spine flat and decompressed, not extended or flexed. Not to mention the breath expansion through the ribcage and back always unstick some grabbing and adhesions through my spine in a way that feels delicious! #core #breath #spine #yoga #movement #mobility #nervoussystem #proprioception #play #houstonyoga

PR clean 315 lbs / 142 kg almost passed out tryna lower the weight.

Hmm🤔 I guess programming really works lol 😂.... 4 weeks ago I decided to go on a strength cycle where I would backsquat to a max double 3 times a week to get stronger legs followed by one deload week.... Ended this one month strength cycle with a 300 (5 lbs clean PR) on Monday 265 (20 lbs) power clean PR on Friday, and 315 lbs clean (15 lbs PR Saturday).

Shoes have helped us explore regions of the world, perform certain tasks with more ease, and even express ourselves through style---but how did we get away from our roots and get uncomfortable using our feet in ways they were designed?

26 bones, 33 different joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves and vessels woven together in a single foot---together with the direction of our brain, we interpret a massive amount of information about balance and rhythm through our feet. Most people as well as most brain physicians don’t think about how important the feet are to brain health. As seen in the reflexology chart, your feet are connected to every part of the body, including the brain. Neurology speaking, tons of proprioception (your body’s awareness in space) comes from our feet. Proprioception is one of the best nutrients for your brain! That’s why living in this concrete jungle and wearing shoes that decrease our connection to the earth is decreasing our brain health. On a physical level, the foot is made up of 26 bones and if they are misaligned or subluxated this will cause poor body alignment and extra stress higher up in the kinetic chain. This sends poor neural activation to the brain and will increase inflammation. Love your feet and they will love you and your brain!
