CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE
CAD also known a coronary heart disease (CHD), two terms used interchangeably
CAD is caused by plaque buildup in the outer walls of the arteries, which play a role in supplying blood to the heart. These coronary arteries become clogged with cholesterol deposits and creates a condition called atherosclerosis.
With narrow arteries, the heart can not receive enough blood which then can lead to angina (chest pain). If over a long period time the heart fails to receive enough blood, it can weaken the heart muscle.
If you experience discomfort or pain in the region, schedule a checkup with your doctor so they can perform tests (EKG, sugar levels, Echocardiograms, etc) to find out your risk for CAD.
