Had such a lovely birthday yesterday.
Vegan donuts with friends at @blanchecardiff (such lovely people), quick stop to Roath rec to hang with @gloverbox where I made a lil friend , met with fam and stopped by @lush (to restock on my fave - Rose Jam body spray), and dinner with the fam at @milgicardiff (such delicious vegan food, and lovely people). And of course the rainbow vegan cake I’d made (my first, and quite yummy).
(Earl grey & lemon donut, French toast donut, strawberry iced latte - blanch bakery.
Fresh rose lemonade, tofu & veg skewers with houmous and Pitta, rainbow wholefood bowl with triple cooked chips. - milgi’s
Rainbow cake - me :’) )
I was laughing with a friend this morning that I’m going to be basking in the glory that is this cake for years to come. Now I KNOW it’s not perfect or even very professional, it’s what it represents to me more than anything because, over the years, my children’s birthdays have been a massive source of anxiety to me: will I buy the right presents, will they enjoy their parties, can I make a decent cake?? A few years ago I tried to make a rainbow cake for my boy, it was a disaster - he loved it. Yesterday I tried again for my daughter, it is (in my low-expectation-opinion) bloody marvellous - she loved it. Basically a little lesson to me that a) I can do something if I try and b) my kids love what I do regardless of whether it’s picture perfect or not. Have faith in yourself Janey!!!
