Self-love might look like your husband taking photos of you and not begging him to make your ankles look more dainty, or smoothing out your skin tones so the freckles disappear, or enhancing certain parts of your body that may be considered less than.
It also means looking at yourself in the mirror and loving the uniqueness of what makes you you. Erasing every preconceived idea of what you believe you are supposed to look like and instead embracing who you actually are.
It doesn’t mean we can’t work out, eat healthy, or treat ourselves to facials. It means we allow ourselves to pour into our own self as much as we pour into others. It says, “I deserve to take care of myself and love the end result.” That is self care.
And that end result may be a 45 year old woman with ankles that have carried her through life’s ups and downs, sprinkled with freckles that remind her she’s young at heart and a body that God created to be more than enough.
In this crazy world of comparisons, and many times we are comparing ourselves to a filtered version of someone, take a step back. We are so hard on ourselves, why is that? I challenge each of us to not compare, and to look in the mirror and admire the beauty in yourself.
Take some time this week to love on yourself. Treat yourself to something that makes you feel good.
