Thursday, July 12th, 2018 In a pivotal game that could decide the division in the long run, Oakland came out very sluggish. After 2 solid innings of baseball, the Houston Astros exploded, scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Open was not able to respond in the top of the 4th inning and Chris Bassittwas put in in relief of Cahill. Houston immediately took advantage of this hitting a 2 run home run off the bat of Tony Kemp, taking a 4-0 lead into the 5th. As the top of the 5th started, Oakland's bats came alive. Three straight singles knocked Morton out of his rhythm. Oakland would take advantage as Martini would double, scoring two runs, cutting the Houston lead in half. Piscotty would then single, scoring Lucroy and made it a 1 run game. After this, a pitcher's duel ensued as neither team could score until the 8th inning. Chapman would break the ice as he doubled to left off of Devenski, scoring Davis, tying the game at 4. On an odd play but Canha, he smacked a ball to left field, but it was reviewed. However, he was only given a single. 2 runs scored on his hit and Oakland took a 6-4 lead. Trivini should shut Houston down and secured an Oakland victory. Oakland improves to 53-41. We now travel back home, but stay on the road as we go to San Francisco for the final three games before the All-Star Break.
Tomorrow's Pitching Matchup:
