Day 58, Movie 86: Rock ‘N’ Roll High School
This movie is a fun spoof of 1950s Beach/Anti-Authority movies, while also being an updated version of the aforementioned movies. That is why it works.
Do you like The Ramones? Sure, we all do. Maybe not. I don’t want to assume anything. Okay, assuming that you like The Ramones - this is for you.
This is one of those “Damn the man. Save the Empire”-style movies. The big mean new principal wants to take away all of the fun from high school, but Riff Randell won’t be having any of that authoritarian bullshit. How do Riff and Kate, her friend, go about taking down this new principal? Well, they dance around a bit, write a song, smoke some weed, sing some songs, learn how to date, go to a Ramones concert and blow up the school. You know, like you do.
This is really dopey. There is a giant rat that was influenced by rock music and a Native chief that is selling tickets. Real subtle comedy.
Also, Paul Bartel has a main role in this. Paul is a welcome addition to any cast. I thought that was a pertinent piece of information. Maybe not. You choose.
Anyway, this is a real good time. Don’t take it seriously (the filmmakers didn’t) and enjoy the ride. Also, you probably need to like The Ramones. Check it out.
Did you know it’s raining cats and dogs in Idaho?
