[Hock Soon Carrot Cake]
[•] Google “best Carrot Cake in ” and you can bet your bottom that two stalls located at Ghim Moh Hawker Centre are sure to feature among your top hits. I’ve sampled both stalls many a time hitherto, but could never decide which was my clear favourite. In any event, I decided to do a review of one of the two stalls, namely, Hock Soon Carrot Cake (HSCC).
[•] Given my penchant for always choosing the unhealthier of any two food choices, I elected to go with the $3 Black Carrot Cake. As one can tell from the photograph, the dish came with a generous serving of black sauce, which was sweet enough to mask the inherent saltiness of the radish, but not egregiously so as to cause you to become diabetic overnight.
[•] If you, like me, absolutely must have some level of spice kick, you won’t be dissatisfied with HSCC’s homemade , which not only ramps up the dish’s , but also makes it 2 x more flavourful. I also liked the fact the the carrot cake was cut up into very small cubes, which actually helped to bring out the wok-hei flavours all the more poignantly.
[•] My only gripe was with the quantity served up, which (i) I felt was less than what I got previously when I ordered the same dish and (ii) didn’t justify the $3 price tag. But that aside, I am of the view that HSCC’s Carrot Cake merits a 4.7/5 neshrating.
