This was the pitch I gave live at the @edinburghtvfest last year. I was part of the festival‘s @onestowatch_tv program and was lucky enough to have my 3min film concept, an unbroken portrait of a freediver, shortlisted for C4‘s @c4randomacts. I had the freedom to pitch absolutely anything, the only stimulation, it must be 3min in length.
My conviction in the idea paid off, but boy, was I nervous before getting up on stage. The intro was intimidating to say the least! Congrats to everyone else who took part, there were some really great ideas presented that morning.
I‘ve got to give props to @joshuas_stephenson, who planted the seed for me. Josh came back from a Balinese diving trip with tales of underwater adventures on one breath. Id been aware of freediving, but it wasn‘t until I learnt about the process of finding a state of calm, that I really became fascinated. Before this, like most people, the very thought of being underwater for an extended period of time filled me with trepidation. Over the last year I've spoken to lots of divers who have shared their passion with me and I hope the film captures that spirit.
It was a surreal moment when Russell T Davies, in his lifetime achievement award speech (I was unaware of who Russell was at the time!!), name checking me in his colourful acceptance speech. @lukespillane you‘ll enjoy this!
Big thanks to @Lee_B for the valuable advice on delivery, and @alexjayling for directing me towards OWT and supporting at every turn. Thanks to @cathbray who ultimately commissioned the film and I appreciate all your efforts throughout the process. It really was an absolute pleasure. I wasn't able to be there this year myself but it was an honour to have my film screened before the 2018 live pitches. Big shout out to Sophie Perrins for winning this year! I cant wait to see the film.
