Cheesman Canyon can’t catch a break. Last week’s flash flood has already destroyed a lot of habitat. Many of the popular holes (Rainbow Pool pictured) mid canyon have filled in from decomposed granite from the Hayman Fire burn scar. These washouts are as bad or worse as the ones that occurred after the fire. I am told by a reliable source that 3.8 inches of rain fell in a short period of time. There is damage throughout the lower and mid canyon, trail, as well as the reservoir area. I’m just sick to my stomach as the canyon was finally getting back to it’s glory days...and now this happens. This area has been plagued by fire, drought, and flash floods. Now we’re faced with a huge challenge in many areas once again as these insect choking sediment are gonna have a huge impact on the aquatic life and well being of this fishery.
