Olde Rabbit's Foot (2017) - Foothills Brewing Winston-Salem, NC 10.13%abv
foothillsbrewing.com "Stout brewed with honey and with cocoa nibs added and aged in bourbon barrels." Black, tarry, pour through which no light passes.
Enormous, sweet, aromas heartily emanate from my goblet. Sweet, deep roasted grains, stewed plums, candied figs, booze-soaked raisins, dark chocolate, and wet wood all vie at once for attention from my senses. I haven't even taken a sip yet, but this looks - well, smells - extremely promising, wow. There's a lot going on here.
First sip: I don't quite know where to begin! I will say right away that it is quite rich. Colossal waves of flavour - spectacular in complexity and depth - wash over the palate. It's almost difficult to pick out just one thing or another. Everything present in the nose is present on the palate, as well, plus a few others. There's an undeniable honey note that makes a very brief, fleeting, appearance in the middle and shows up once more on the finish. There's also a distinct bourbon whiskey flavour, as well. This sturdily crafted stout also has that "bordering-on-chewy" mouthfeel to it that I love so much in a stout. It is certainly quite heavy and filling. Additionally, there's the lovely warming sensation of barrel aged stout booziness as it hits the belly. This is just fabulously well crafted. Big thanks to @shadowofjames for picking this up for me.
