Today I had my first session with @matteo_ssj2 😎🙌🏽🔥
I haven't trained as a gymnast since I quit coaching 10 years ago. When I tell people I once had my own squad they're like 🙄 sure you did. Anyway, I conquered a massive fear which was doing the back handspring. I injured myself as I have hyper mobility in my lower back I really over extended and hurt myself. That put me off for years, I'd coach and teach it but never do it. So I'm really proud of myself that I was able to get past this! Excellent session really learnt to unhinged some bad habits from not training properly, so this was a great way to relearn a new and might I add a better way! Soon I'll be a certified Ninja turtle 🤣😂😆 @misstwerkology !

Back in May of last year I was working as a strength and conditioning intern for Mike Boyle Strength & Conditioning. During an interview I had with Coach Boyle I asked, “What is the best way for somebody new in the fitness industry to make a name for themselves?
He said, “Get good at it. Keep reading. Keep writing. Keep training. Write down ideas and take notes.
This advice stays with me and motivates me to keep working hard in a daily basis to get where I want to be, even as I’ve struggled with injury and lack of motivation.

You can probably tell how fatigued I am just by looking at my form, which is pretty bad but felt okay so not too worried. Working at 75% of 1 rep max for 5x3, however only managed 3x3 before I called it. Followed this with some hyper trophy work.

205kg squat tonight next to last rep of the session pretty damn happy with how fast these weights are starting to move. Not the prettiest of reps but it was a lot faster than 180kg used to move so can’t complain. Plus tired and stiff legs from about 10000000 reps with a worm this weekend. .

Another strength cycle done. Time to chill a little then rebuild @formleeds coming up in August and that’s sure to be fun! .

MOBILITY MONDAY

The rotator cuffs, I know you may or main not have heard of them. The rotator cuff muscles are a set of 4 muscles the help control and stabilise your scapular (shoulder blade). Two sit on the outside of the shoulder blade one under the shoulder blade and one above the shoulder. .
The reason a lot of people struggle with there shoulder mobility is yes they are tight, but if we look at why they are tight we may be able to solve the issue. So a muscle thats been hit hard and pushed a little too far a little too often tends to be super tight, so if we can mobilise them and lose them up this will give a window to be able to strengthen them slowly. I say slowly as if we try this too quickly you’ll go straight back to square one, for a long term fix we want to strengthen them so they rarely get tight.

So give this little exercise a go, you can get these bands on amazon and any good sports shop. Start with the lightest and see how it feels.

Warning it tends to burn a little ( like acid) its a good sign

This is so damn important for success and is also the reason I fight the gurus out there promising magical results.

Your weight loss is going to take time. Yes you can go faster in the beginning but don’t expect to be at your goal within a month. Shoot for at the highest 1% MAYBE 2% of your weight per week (in the beginning) and plan accordingly.
-
No detox drink is going to help you. Stop buying them. Stop buying those stupid wraps. Stop buying fat burners. They don’t work and/or they aren’t safe.
-
Stop believing any diet will magically allow you to forget about calories. Fasting and keto are not magic. STOPPPPPP thinking that.
-
It’s going to take time. You’ll have to eat more filling foods to help with appetite unless you don’t suffer from appetite issues and just struggle with understanding portions.
-
Get some movement in. Walk every day. Lift weights a few times a week. If you can do some aerobic training then awesome.

Get a coach and a support group.

🌼But WHAT A DAY to be ALIVE 💫 Like honestly, I don’t know how my mind flipped in just several hours into my day. I started off all crummy because my sleep is becoming more of an issue again. For the past few weeks i had trouble falling asleep (takes me like 3 hours), but last night I ran out of a thing I take, so I not only had trouble falling asleep, but I had trouble staying asleep. That said, I got a whopping 4 hours. Woot woot. Soo much fun. My brains having a party rn, haha

🌼I decided to go on a run at about 10am, but that was miserable because I didn’t have enough energy to exert into that. So barely surviving my route, I got home and decided the remainder of today will be a rest day. You gotta take care of your body, so I did all I could today. I tried and I put in the effort. It wasn’t my best, and instead of seeing that as a FAILURE, I see it as a time for RECOVERY. My body can normally do that circuit, so going at a slow pace and struggling told me that I need to rest. So that’s what today is.

🌼I’m also super determined to get on without those aforementioned things, and I’m killer at doing things I’m determined for. Good thing this goal is a positive :D

This is the last week of a 3 week strength mesocycle. Been having good results with rotating between strength and hypertrophy blocks more frequently. Currently doing 3 weeks of high volume hypertrophy work followed by 3 weeks of strength focused work. Today’s lift included:
•Box Squat work up to heavy singles (505 in video), then 2x failure at 80% of daily max •Rack pull 4x4 (585 shown) •RFE Split Squat 3x5ea (175 shown)

Early #transformationtuesday photo. Then: no exercise except some cardio from dog walking, thought I had an idea how to eat right, thought I had a clue on how to mind myself, I didn't. The left pic I was unaware a photo was being taken, so I know this is exactly how I was back then in 2016. Although I didn't really see it yet. A stressed out mess working 2 high pressure jobs. I had kid myself telling myself I was okay, I could handle it. Had no idea how to take care of myself, how to eat right, emotionally and physically becoming unrecognizable, anxiety and panic attacks were becoming almost daily. I remember trying to get to work early one saturday morning and having to pull the car over on the road to throw up as that was my body's way of coping with anxiety at the time. ➡️➡️➡️ almost two years after making a decision to take better care of myself inside and out. Learning how to care for my mind and body and finding strength in fitness AND rest days. I'm still learning how to be kinder to myself and still suffer with daily anxiety but I eat better and have a better idea on how to fuel my body. I lift weights, I run, I sleep better and know who is in My support group. My body is heslthier and stronger and then my head caught up to. I'm looking forward to the future and planning things, continue to see progress and hit goals both in fitness and in life and I did it myself, for myself.

HOME WORKOUT 🏠
I haven’t been to the gym in over a week so today I was SO ready to get a good workout in, I went down to my new gym only to be told I needed to book an induction for tomorrow 🙄🙄.

So instead, I did this KILLER home workout, I used ankle weights, a resistance band and very low weight dumbbells but you can improvise with what you have! -
Workout deetsss:

1. Dumbell around the worlds - 20 reps
2. Dumbbell L raises - 20 reps
3. Ankle weight burpees - 10 reps (these are absolutely vile🤢😂)
4. Superset Ankle weight in and outs - 20 reps and flutter kicks - 10 reps.
5. Superset donkey kicks and fire hydrants - 10 reps each leg (with a resistance band and ankle weights).
6. Single leg weighted ankle hip thrusts - 10 reps each leg. -
I repeated this 3 time with around 45 seconds between each round - enjoy😂💃🏾.

LAT PULL DOWN has its place. But the Samson Lat Pull Down is the Titan if I were to choose. It fully Activates your Lats, Teres Major and Forearm flexors. You can pull heavier weight, it builds your stabilizers, strengthens your core. Why wouldn't you train this exercise? Now seriously try it out. Make sure you set your shoulder blades back before you start.

PART 2: Unlocking a powerful Chin up. Find a box to jump up to the top of the bar. While doing so engage your entire body, and slowly lower yourself. The higher the weight the better. Eccentrics will lead to a much stronger Concentric contraction. So use it as a finisher or prioritize it, if you have difficulty completing pulls ups/chin ups. -

PART 1: Advice on unlocking your weighted chin ups/pull ups. Don't just focus on the exercise itself. You need to train accessory work in order to build strength in youre forearm flexors, Teres major and Lats. Eccentrics or as the bros call them "negatives" are the best way to increase your strength in a shorter window of time!
