1967~1968 South Vietnam Huế Stamp
Country: South Vietnam (now southern part of current day Vietnam)
Value: 1 Vietnamese dong
A beautiful stamp with a very interesting history and discovery. It was very difficult to find anything about this stamp. Luckily, I was able to find something about it. It is about the city of Huế located in the central region of Vietnam.
In 1968, Huế suffered immense destruction during the Battle of Huế in the Vietnam War. However, since that period, there has been intense reconstruction and most areas that were affected are now revitalized. This stamp shows the true pride of Huế through its infrastructure and culture. Even through hard times, Huế managed to express itself through creativity and beauty.
In the centre on a sand coloured background, there is a picture of a temple, a small tree and a statue of a man and a turtle. On the top right corner, there is a text with the words “Buu-Chinh”, which might refer it to past history when it was a part of French Indochina, a colony of France. There is also the value of the stamp on the top right corner, which is 1 Vietnamese dong, about 9 US cents at the time. And in the bottom left corner, there are the texts “HUẾ” (name of the city), and “VIỆT-NAM CỘNG-HOÀ” (South Vietnam). It is truly a wonderful stamp, showing the symbolism and true colours of this great city. Full of careful detail and artistic design, this is a must-have for all stamp collectors. •
