I made this #illustration 4 years ago. For me it's very special and important. My #depression had started a year before. A year in which I wasn't able to draw because picking up a pencil caused #anxiety attacks. It took me a year to be able to re-enter in my studio. I finally found myself strong enough to sit down in front of a blank piece of paper. And I created the most personal illustration of my whole life ... It's called "Hat" “Smile”, “think happy thoughts”, “stay optimistic” they keep saying. Like #sadness was a #hat that you could just put on and take off at a whim.
I wanted to pay homage to this movement coming from the United States which tends towards the affirmation and the acceptance of the black people. Being myself of African descent, I am very touched by the news, among others, the police miscarriage against African Americans in the United States.
At the same time, we can see the emergence of a strong reaction
and a real desire to put forward personalities born of diversity.
There is a real awareness today, transmitted in part by the media.
are we at the crossroads...?
There are many reasons for why a gathering of people in a circle is powerful. A circle is a shape that is found repeatedly throughout the natural world, and it is a symbol of ‘perfection’. We recreate this perfect shape when we join others to form a circle. Being in a circle allows us to experience each other as equals. Each person is the same distance apart from the next person and no one is seated higher than or stands apart from others in a circle. From tribal circles to the mythical round table of King Arthur, the circle has been the shape adopted by gatherings throughout history.
The circle is acknowledged as an archetype of wholeness and integration, when groups of people come together in a circle, they are united.
Our beloved Chrysanthemums. .
Here’s a little history from Teleflora.com. .
With a history that dates back to 15th century B.C., chrysanthemum mythology is filled with a multitude of stories and symbolism. Named from the Greek prefix "chrys-" meaning golden (its original color) and "-anthemion," meaning flower, years of artful cultivation have produced a full range of colors, from white to purple to red. Daisy-like with a typically yellow center and a decorative pompon, chrysanthemums symbolize optimism and joy.
They're the November birth flower, the 13th wedding anniversary flower and the official flower of the city of Chicago. .
In Japan, there's even a "Festival of Happiness" to celebrate this flower each year.
A symbol of the sun, the Japanese consider the orderly unfolding of the chrysanthemum's petals to represent perfection, and Confucius once suggested they be used as an object of meditation. .
It's said that a single petal of this celebrated flower placed at the bottom of a wine glass will encourage a long and healthy life.
BITUIN ~ Princess Cadavona
She's done! Thanks to a little bit of experimenting, I've created a couple of brushes that I can use for more believable fabric.
