Good luck to everyone attempting 18.4. Our advice, split the reps from the beginning into manageable chunks. Limit your transition times as much as possible. It will be much more conducive, especially in the handstand push ups to take short breaks rather than getting no repped on bigger sets.

Dumbbell movements are fast becoming a staple throughout Crossfit programming. If the first two Open announcements are anything to go by, they’re here to stay. Our athletes programming is still featuring the dumbbells and we will continue to place a heavy emphasis on the practice of a variety of these movements throughout The Open season. This week the focus has been on unilateral overhead movement patterns and the ability to maintain a stable trunk whilst under heavy fatigue.

Training during the open. Should you ease off or carry on full steam ahead?
The answer, no. Just be smart. The Crossfit Open is one of the strangest structured sporting competitions around, due to its long 5 week duration. Therefore training should remain consistent, varied and progressive throughout The Open just as it would do throughout the rest of the year. You wouldn’t go easy for 5 weeks usually, as everybody knows this would have huge detrimental effects on fitness and strength levels. However programming should remain flexible, and should have the ability to be changed and modified daily, dependant on the Open workouts that are released. Allowing for heavy fatigue recovery and the possibility of workout repeats.
