Something a little different for your Sunday morning; we found this mole in the wildlife garden (sadly no longer with us). If you’ve never seen a mole up close, here’s the opportunity!
Feet: Notice the size difference between their front and back feet, they use their front ‘spade like’ feet for digging and tunnelling.
Eyes, nose and ears: Moles have very small eyes and internal ears, they are small to prevent them becoming clogged up and damaged during tunnelling. Their eyesight is poor, only detecting light from dark and movement. Their pink nose makes up for their poor eyesight; it’s their main sensory organ, covered in tiny pimples able to detect scents, prey and other moles - they follow their nose!
A mole needs to eat the equivalent of its body weight every day!
Happy Sunday folks
