One of the ugliest words of all time is procrastination. The last-minute homework? The savings account with no deposits? The lip service you give your healthy diet and gym membership?
Procrastination creates shame, stress, and anxiety. Why do you do it? There are many reasons, but the one I want to focus on is: “I just don’t “feel” like doing it.” When you say, “I am not a morning person” or “I can’t get motivated to exercise” or “I just like donuts, ice-cream, and chips.” what you are really saying is that you can’t get yourself to feel like doing what you know you should be doing.
Why are you waiting until you feel like doing it? Somewhere you got the idea, that you must be motivated before you act.
I listened to “Nick Koumalatsos” yesterday, and I loved it when he said, “motivation is shit.” He could not be more spot-on.
Most successful individuals are successful due to habits that force them to put in a set number of hours a day, regardless of their motivation.
If you're procrastinating some hard task because you don’t feel like it, remember you don’t need to feel like it. Stop seeking motivation or inspiration and start a plan. Act regardless of your motivation. If you wait until you “feel like” it, it will never happen.
