“You’re the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” -Jim Rohn
This quote, for me, is one of my life philosophies. I believe I am responsible for my own thoughts and actions. However, I also have come to realize I am easily influenced by my environment and people around me. Part of my responsibility for my thoughts and actions involves taking control of who I allow into my life. This includes family, friends, even colleagues. Each person has an impact on me which contributes to who I am.
Going through divorce, I owe so much of my positive mindset to those closest to me. I am blessed to have an amazing support system.
Negativity is toxic. Negative people are like leeches. They will suck the life out of you if you allow them to have a strong presence in your life. Always evaluate and re-evaluate who is in your circle. Do they build you up and fuel your positivity? Then do the same to them. Do they kick you when you’re down, take without giving, and bring out the worst parts of you? Then keep them at arm’s length. Maybe even cut them out completely. And always know your worth.
