REST is just as important as your training. If you don’t take rest days you simply won’t recover, therefore you’ll be unable to train or you’ll just get injured! I suggest taking 1-3 rest days per week, this can depend on quite a few things though. Feel free to message me if you think you are taking too much or too little rest🤓

I set out to run today’s 10k my fastest yet, and I did just that!
1:16.33, an improvement of 16 minutes 🎉🏃🏼‍♀️
I am so happy & proud today, and so impressed with my body for not giving me ANY shin splints, side stitches, or getting too tired! I took a couple walk breaks to reset and ran almost the whole thing. I was in the zone, felt good, and just RAN. It felt so GOOD!
It was SO fun to finish the race and meet up with my friends @lovejezelle @natalia.wright10 @quelnog_ and get some swag from @saje @kind and more, and the most amazing donuts too!
@lululemonyeg & @runcrs put together an amazing event and this is hands down my best race EVER.

First time trying @fit.donut2017 and ima just give it a 15/10 on the taste and quality, most protein donuts you get are dry, not these bad boys. I’ve always liked doing these supine cable lateral raises. A great way to isolate the middle head of your deltoids but also to avoid any “excess cheating” and maintaining constant tension on the muscle. Here Im superseding it with a cable rear delt row. A great way to target both heads effectively and with the same equipment.

💥Dumbbell Romanian Deadlifts💥

Grasp a couple of dumbbells holding them by your side at arm's length.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Stand with your torso straight and your legs spaced using a shoulder width or narrower stance. The knees should be slightly bent. This is your starting position.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Keeping the knees stationary, lower the dumbbells to over the top of your feet by bending at the waist while keeping your back straight. Keep moving forward as if you were going to pick something from the floor until you feel a stretch on the hamstrings. Exhale as you perform this movement.

Start bringing your torso up straight again by extending your hips and waist until you are back at the starting position. Inhale as you perform this movement.

Be extra careful if you have lower back problems. Try not to go down as low as you will feel it more in your lower back.

Play close attention to your form, making sure you do not round your back. Your back should always be straight.

I’m sure those of you on this journey with me are still feeling the effects of week one. Legs on 🔥. We dug deep and gave it our best. Sinking down that extra inch on the last rep may have had us shaking (possibly cussing at the screen), however, knowing there were two days of recovery ahead made it bearable. I’m looking forward to heading into week two tomorrow feeling fresh and renewed. 💪🏼

For me lifting weights is a form of meditation; a time when you can be alone with yourself and the weights; a time for inner peace. No doubt that I have always trained alone, rarely do I go to the gym or train with a training partner. Concentrate; imagine that the gym is empty. You are the only one in the gym. Don’t mind all the other people as you go into your sets. Clear everything and treat this session as not just a “lifting” session but as a meditation and a route to tranquility.
Only be aware of the NOW; you and the weight and only the weight. Breathe with each and every rep and be conscious of your breathing, be conscious of the cadence and the beauty of the simple movements of lifting and lowering the weights. Me 2 years ago, and that was not at my heaviest. 🙈 When you lose wight it is hard to actually realize that you Don’t look the same because I still feel like a big girl in my mind and when I look in the mirror. Progress pictures are a great way to remind oneself of How far you have come.

TRANSFORMATION!!!! I’m very hard on myself. I expect a lot from me. So, sometimes it’s difficult for me to feel like I’m doing well or making progress. These pics are two and a half years apart. Through those 2 1/2 years I’ve had injuries, continued my martial arts training, gone through a breakup with my high school Sweetheart, had deaths in the family.... there are countless reasons to not do something. There are an infinite number of excuses we can make for ourselves as to why we aren’t currently pursuing our potential. I refuse to play that game. I work hard, every day, regardless. The only thing that separates the “successful” (in any field) from the “failures” is consistency and persistency. I was 165 on the right. I’m currently 187 on the left. Set some goals. Find opportunity in the obstacles you face, not hardships. Look back at what you were, see what you are now and allow that to provide you with a vision of where you can be or where you’re headed. I can only imagine what I’ll be in another 2 1/2 years.... I will never quit. My drive is beyond anything I have encountered and that drive is my greatest asset. The ability to persist, through any circumstance. Results, or excuses. You choose. .

💡Reducing overall risk of injury, as strong glutes can help take stress off the lower back and also positively affect the mechanics of the hips, knees, ankles, and feet.

Hip thrusts allow for an increased range of motion, and use of added weight i.e barbell. Lean on elevation just under your shoulder blades, keep your chin tucked, try to not let your head fall back, feet should be close to glutes and legs should form a 90 degree angle when you push your hips up. Work on glute bridges to activate your muscles and work up to hip thrusts when you’re ready. If you’re looking to isolate glutes and hamstrings stick with glute bridges since the quads aren’t as isolated. .
