WORKOUT WEDNESDAY - hip adductor work

A bit more hanging around on the Cadillac horizontal bars. This time using the arms springs and folded straps for stirrups, instead of leg springs because let’s admit it, my inner thighs aren’t what they used to be. Gone are the days of crushing a watermelon between my legs like I’m a Bond girl. Ok, I never had those days but you get my drift. 😆

Make sure you start by working in imprint if you can’t hold neutral and stabilise your shoulders. Get those latissimus dorsi, rhomboids, lower trapezius, teres major and minor working to keep your body feeling light. Don’t just hang there passively if you can help it.

Then play with the exercise to activate your long and short hip adductors and your obliques with unilateral work:
- double and single leg straight long adductor pulls
- double and single leg bend to straighten and reverse
- double and single leg frog heel and cross body squeezes
- pulses
- passive stretch
.
Whatever you can think off as long as those hands hold. I always find holding on more strenuous than the actual adductor work. I’d show you them all but my hands yelled out for me to stop hanging. So here’s a couple to start you off. Enjoy!

Having a strong core is cool. It protects your back from injury, enables you to lift heavier, move better, & have greater balance. But most “ab exercises” kinda suck. Sit ups are boring and basically useless, and while planks have their place, they’re also boring as hell.

Any kind of hanging core exercise also increases your grip strength, which you’ll need if you ever want to be able to do a pullup, or crush someone’s skull with your bare hands.🤷‍♀️

Here are a couple of my favorites, progressing from easiest to hardest. And pro tip: if you have the ability to do these with some kind of wall or rack behind you, you’ll eliminate swinging, which will enable you to focus 100% on the abdominal muscles working.

How Important Is Rest And Recovery?

You’re on a mission to be active so you hit the gym every day. You feel really proud of yourself for managing to stick to a routine and finally feel like you have the ‘exercise bug’ and can adhere to it.

But 12 months on you’re not getting the progressions like you used to. You’re beginning to feel exhausted and tired so in an effort to make a difference you push yourself even harder during your workouts.

Your plateau could be the result of over-training and not resting correctly in between your workouts.
my top 5 tips for assisting recovery from your workouts:

1) Aim for 7-8 hours good quality sleep per night (muscles only recover during rest)

2) Human Growth Hormone (HGH) released during sleep so avoid interrupting it’s secretion but getting an early night and turning off electrical devices.

3) Eat protein 30-40 minutes after a workout (liquid is better so the amino acids can be released straight into the blood steam.) 4) Drink plenty of water, 2 litres minimum.

5) Take a day off once a week for complete rest

Some snippets of a workout I did over the weekend. Was such a good feeling doing some training outdoors ☀️. This workout was 45 seconds each exercise with a 10 second , 3 rounds with a 1-2 minute rest between rounds. Give it a go and let me know how you go 😅
