YANKEES WIN 4-3!
SWEEP! The Yanks take all three against the Mariners for their 50th win of the year! -
Luis Severino was shaky today. Did not have his good slider or change, and struggled with command. He also had a hard time putting batters away. For most pitchers, that would probably mean a pretty terrible outing. Luis Severino isn’t just any pitcher though. He kept it together, and put together a decent outing. His line: 5.2 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB, 5 K.
The Yanks scored all four of their runs in the first against Paxton. After a Clint Frazier lead off single, Aaron Judge took Paxton the other way and into the short porch for a 2-run home run (19)! A batter later, Giancarlo Stanton hit a ball high, deep, and fast to straight away center, but Mitch Haniger was able to come up with an amazing catch to rob him of his third homer in as many days. It was one of those days for Stanton. He was robbed of a home run, and hit an absolute rocket that just barely stayed up for Span to catch it in left later in the game. -
The second two runs came via the bat of Miguel Andújar, who also took Paxton deep into the short porch for a 2-run shot (10). -
The guys managed some base runners throughout the game, but were unable to come up with some big hits with RISP. Fortunately, the bullpen was able to cover them in a big way.
David Robertson relieved Sevy with two men on and two men out with the score 4-3 in the sixth. D-Rob induced a Zunino flyout to end the threat. He then when on to toss a scoreless seventh. Dellin and Chapman each followed him up with scoreless frames in the eighth and ninth respectively. -
D-Rob: 1.1 IP, H, 0 R, 0 BB, K
Dellin: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, 2 K
Chapman: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, K
Clint: 2-4, R
Judge: 1-3, HR, 2 RBI, R
Torres: 2-4, R
Andújar: 1-3, HR, 2 RBI, R
Awesome way to finish off the home stand against a tough team! The Yanks now head to Tampa for the first time this year to start a three game series against the Rays. CC gets the ball tomorrow with the Rays preparing an “opener” day. They’ll send out Ryne Stanek.
