10 months ago the 7.8 earthquake that shook out little town and towns surrounding us did more damage than we could've imagined. We awoke to twisted train tracks, hillsides fallen away, sea bed risen bringing with it a new look coastline and not too mention broken buildings. Our lives have forever changed and back then we had an uncertain future. Since then there has been many milestones of which today's was especially momentous. The first freight train from AKL to CHC pulled into Kaikoura at 8am after 10 months of hard times and round the clock work by some amazing men and women. Just when we all thought it couldn't be done, today proved otherwise. Huge thank you to the KiwiRail team and all involved. We shed a tear today - not out of sorrow but of hope.
