Yesterday in meditation class, someone asked how we dealt with stressful situations, especially in the moment when we couldn’t walk away. ⠀
The answers from the group were diverse and inspiring. It seemed each person had found something that generally worked for them. From focusing on the breath, to writing, to transferring the emotion to a physical object to be set aside, to softening the shoulders or hands as a symbol of softening the emotions. ⠀
There were more physical things as well, for once you were out of the situation. Yelling in your car, walking barefoot to ground yourself, shaking all the feelings out. ⠀
It was so meaningful that everyone was willing to share something so personal. Dealing with tough emotions is tough. It can be deeply unsettling. When we share our experiences we know that we aren’t alone and that it’s okay to both yell in your car and breath through it. ⠀
How do you deal with stressful situations and tough emotions?
