Honesty thought after having surgery on my arm that it may be the last set back I could take in my fitness journey. After few weeks of giving it my all my workouts felt very stagnant and repetitive. I’ve always been one to gain my motivation and workout ideas, but I could tell I needed that extra push this time. I never thought I would be the person that needed/wanted personal training but after only sessions with @mitch.ludwig I can honestly say I’m glad I broke away from my solitary and meathead way, just having someone push those last few reps or making me try a new technique has made that drive begin to enter my workouts again. Much more progress too be made but with my mind coming back into my workouts and a push i have been missing for awhile new goals are in action.

Yesterday, I practiced the "Sweep the Bar" drill I got from @d.j.mac for the clean. Today, I did the same drill for the snatch. One thing I realized after doing this drill for both lifts, I need to improve my leg strength to get better at this drill, and save my back from future injury. And, I think I may have a way to do this, which I'll test out as part of tomorrow's workout. 🤔😎👊

Before squats and or dead’s I like to decompress my back like in the first video. I use a dip belt and (3)45lb plates and hang from some pull-up handles in the gym. By slowly lowering myself into the weighted hang I can feel my spine lengthen and occasionally pop lightly (kind of what you get when you twist to force it to pop (which doesn’t work for me)). At the end you’ll notice I pull up on each hip which allows for whichever side is tighter to come more inline with the other and sometimes one side will cause a light pop as well. By doing this each time I squat or deadlift, I am able to lift more and complete more sets without using that pink belt. I don’t go heavy to go heavy, but I am trying to increase weight steadily. By doing this, I’ve been able to comfortably pull 250 for 3 sets of 10, 8, 6 (which for me is progress coming back from having radiating sciatica pain and impingement). Early this morning, I went back and rewatched some @d.j.mac videos on YouTube. When I did that, I realized I needed to make a few corrections in my deadlift for the snatch and clean. The biggest thing I needed to correct, the direction of my pull. So, for today's clean deadlift session, instead of pulling straight up like I was, I worked on sweeping the bar in using his "Sweep the bar" drill. With this style of pull, I'll be able to lift more weight! 😊😄😎👊

Due to doing the chicken wing exercise with resistance bands as part of last night's workout, when I got home from the gym, I started thinking about all the different ways resistance bands can be used. 🤔 Because of this, as part of my workouts, I'm going to include a lot more resistance band exercises to go along with my weightlifting/olympic lifting work! 😊😄😎👊 With all that said, here's an exercise I did as part of today's workout, a simple resistance band row. Got this awesome little exercise from Carter, one of the trainers @anytimefitnessblacksburg. It's called the chicken wing (don't let its name fool though), and it's great in helping align the shoulders properly. And, as you may or may not know, shoulder realignment is something I've really been working on these past several months. So, definitely going to keep this exercise as a part of my workout regimen! 😊😎👊 Thank you Carter, for this awesome exercise! 🙏🙏
