"Although we have in our armamentarium of skills many tools that enable us to provide services for our patients and clients, there are none more important than exercise. It is the intervention that is truly supported by thousands of studies over the years, so evidence-based practice is not a question in this arena." -2004 McMillan Lecture
This is what Dr. Moffat had to say about what was a massive void in our profession...in 2004. (If you do not know who she is, look her up, she is one of the GOATs of the PT profession)
Dr. Moffat BOLDY challenged the status quo. She stood up for what was right, and she probably ruffled some feathers...but where did it get us? How many of you actually feel your "ther-ex" course is something that set you up for a solid base that Dr. Moffat would be proud of? The quote in the post above is her response to my students who created the S & C course at MGH.
My point of showing you all this, is to drive home the point that change is hard! And many will remain silent in challenging the status quo as not to ruffle feathers...Yet, I for one will not sit aside passively and wait for things to happen, because clearly, that will not be the case! My hope with @thelevelupinitiative is to INSPIRE many of you to become passionate advocates for this profession. So we together (from a place of caring) can BOLDLY challenge the status quo, and make a true difference in pushing our profession forward to new levels. It’s going to take more than one of us to get this done! We have to rally together.
