#MyFriend Ayla Estreich is the co-coordinator for the Youth Center groups in Chios, Greece. She is not only one of the most dedicated hands on volunteers for Action for Education, but she is also part of the team for logistics, recruitment, as well as overseeing different parts of the organization.
Why did you come and why are you still here? “It’s no secret that there is a refugee crisis and massive groups of young people are being denied access to education as well as safe spaces to develop and just chill out. So with my background as a Maths teacher and a youth worker, I decided to come to Chios. I’m still here after all this time because I really enjoy working with the young people alongside other committed volunteers. I want to continue providing them with resources that help them feel like themselves again as I love seeing them grow in confidence everyday. I am also so happy that we are able to give students a chance to use their skills from their pasts and put them to use now. I am proud and happy to facilitate that.”
