Two champions in the making. I'll be heading to Kona, Hawaii; and this guy will be headed to Nome, Alaska.

Been learning a lot on this trip. Introducing the Alaskan Husky. Contrary to what we've seen in movie, are Siberian Husky. These are the guys that actually do most of the sled pulling. Yes they are pure bred. Not saying a Siberian couldn't pull sleds. But some of these races. Especially the #Iditarod which is a 1000 miles long. The Alaskan Husky is the dog of choice. Of course these little guys don't start training till 6th months old.

Denali is pretty cool but so are the puppies. The tour started out with them handing you a puppy right off the shuttle. Talk about a way to start off the day! If only we could take one home!

I met four time Iditarod champion, Jeff King, and a couple new additions to his future sled dog team...Alaskan Husky puppies! These dogs only want to do two things; run, and pull stuff. For their weight (about 50 lbs or 22 kgs) Alaskan Huskies are the strongest draft animal on the planet. Anything warmer than 10 degrees F or -12 C is starting to get too warm for them. And the people that choose to enter the 1000 mile (1600 km) Iditarod race embrace the cold like I would embrace coconuts, rum, and palm trees. The dogs can easily maintain a 10 mph (16km/hr) pace running 100 miles per day (162 km) and do it for 10 days in a row. When the race is finished, most of the dogs just want to turn around and run back. It's the human that usually can't take anymore. What an amazing tour at #huskyhomestead near #denalinationalpark #alaska #huskypuppies #iditarod #alaskanhusky #damncoldweather #freezingweather #travelphoto #travelphotography #travelpics #traveling #travels #traveladdict #justgotravel #traveltheworld #globetrotter #wanderlust #liveyouradventure #backpacking #iphone5
