On Saturday, January 13, 2018, our family was struck by the tragic death of our father, Richard Golden Gardner Jr. and our brother Richard Gardner III, who were murdered at their home in Palmdale. ( http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-palmdale-homicide-update-20180115-story.html) The crime has left a void in our family, the community and in the lives of those who knew them. Since their passing, our family grieves while planning the funerals for both men. Richard Golden Gardner Jr. is survived by his five daughters, Karen Sanzone, Jennifer LeBaron, Mary Dean-Ronin, Sarah Galavan and Rachel Gardner and 11 grandchildren. Richard Gardner III will be remembered by his mother Barbara Gardner, his five sisters and he will forever be the “crazy uncle” to 5 nieces and 6 nephews.
Our family has been overwhelmed with the support, prayers and love of many during this difficult time. This combined outpouring has reminded us that even when dealing with tragedy, love will prevail and people are good. Our special thanks also goes out to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department who has shown the highest levels of professionalism while working around the clock to bring justice to the individual responsible for these horrible acts.
In order to bring our family together from across the country, and provide a proper burial for our father and brother we have established a Go Fund Me page ( https://www.gofundme.com/funeral-expenses-for-the-gardners) and would invite anyone who is able to provide support to the family. Most importantly, whether you can contribute or not, we ask that your prayers continue in order to strengthen our family as we proceed through this challenging time.
