What is “diet mentality” or “diet culture”?
Phrases like....”diet starts (insert day of week)”, “I am going to be ‘good’ this weekend”, “that food is bad”, “I can’t have that food because it’s bad,” “I don’t eat carbs,” “today’s my ‘cheat’ day,” “I’m hungry but I shouldn’t eat”........sound familiar?
This may shock a lot of you because I’m sure most of you have said these phrases yourself. Diet culture makes us think that we need to take extreme measures to make our bodies “better”. Who is to say your body isn’t good enough at the moment?
The reality is that fueling adequately and appropriately without the over/under consumption of foods you potentially label “good” or “bad” is just one key element to unleashing yourself from the food prison you may be sitting in...the concept seems so simple and I think we all know that food is not meant to be fixated on all day. Rather we need to go back to understanding what our body is asking for throughout the day. Stop continuously ignoring the cues of fullness or hunger that come and go daily because that’s your body’s way of telling you it’s in need of something! The key is understanding what those cues look like for YOU✨💕#countnothingeateverything #millathyme
