Self love... it can sound SO SCARY. Don’t worry, I know! The first time I heard a friend say “yeah I really love myself, I think I’m amazing” I was actually quite intimidated, and then immediately went into a self induced hole of confusion, guilt and comparison over the conversation.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
One year on, do I love myself? Yes. Do I love myself every second of every day? No. I don’t. I’m learning and working hard but it takes time.

My yoga practice has been a huge part of my self love journey and so I am beyond excited and honoured to bring a Self Love and Self Compassion Yoga Class to @studioone next week with @nushfoods!

You will arrive into the amazing serene yoga studio ready to do a 75 minute self love themed class, enabling you to delve a little deeper into yourself and see how we can incorporate self love and compassion into our practice. Ever wondered what the difference was between mat Pilates and reformer Pilates? Well come on down to our new Pilates Method class tonight 5.30pm or 6.30pm and see for yourself!

You get two for the price of one here and get to challenge your body using your body weight in more traditional mat Pilates and then switch over to the machines to see how they add more resistance and increase your strength! We LOVE this new class and know you will too!

How often have you found yourself getting bored with your workout? Or maybe you have done the same kind of class so often that you either go into autopilot or you stop noticing progress?

The key to avoiding this pitfall is to make sure your workout routine covers the five elements of fitness: aerobic training, strength training, core exercises, balance training and connective tissue stretching.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
By making sure you cover these five you ensure diversity for both your physical body and your mind too! At Studio One we have classes to cover all five elements, why not try Method Blast for your aerobic fitness, Method Burn for some strength training or even book a PT session in with one of our PTs, reformer Pilates for your core, barre or yoga for balance and yoga for some stretching?! Variety is after all the spice of life!

A couple wobbles some shakes and some incomplete attempts at postures that usually come easy. Also I was going super slow.

A reminder that just because we can doesn’t mean we have to every time.
.
It’s important to not get frustrated with our lack of balance or with arms feeling not as strong on some days.
.
Learning to listen and move with the bodies needs and with a calmness of breath is the most important yoga.
.

Incredible week revisiting, relearning, helping others and also regaining parts of myself through letting go of fears, becoming more observant, more patient, more curious - moving out of my comfort zones so I can make space for new ways of being. .

WEDNESDAY WORKOUT // If there’s one exercise you try this week, make it the Hip Bridge. It’s fantastic for working your core and strengthening your glutes and lower back.
.
Start by lying on your back with the soles of your feet on the floor, hip width apart. Have your arms resting by your hips.
As you breathe in, dig your heels into the ground and lift your back off the floor vertebrae by vertebrae until you have a straight line from your knees, through your hips and to your shoulders. Make sure you don’t let the gap between your knees widen more than hip-width. Hold it here for 2-3 seconds before exhaling and rolling back down to your starting position.

Try 3 circuits of 12-15.
.
💪🏼 To make it even harder, place a Pilates ball in-between your knees and squeeze as you lift your hips up. Pulse the ball, squeezing your thighs together when you reach the top for 3-5 seconds before returning.
.
💦 Want to strengthen your pelvic floor as you go? Squeeze from back to front - activating first the muscles you’d use to stop yourself farting before squeezing the muscles which stop yourself weeing mid-flow. A fantastic exercise which is especially beneficial after you’ve had a baby.

Turn the music up, and allow yourself to get lost in yourself, that’s what I did today. I don’t practice physical yoga asana every day though. Some traditional teachers would argue that perhaps this makes me a bad teacher. But sometimes my body just doesn’t need yoga. For me yoga isn’t really about any of these shapes we make on the mat. Yoga is about understanding yourself, understanding your body, and most importantly understanding the world around you, which is inherently you too. So whether your yoga is asana, running, meditation, netball or even baking. I think as long as you are taking the time to do something that brings you into the present moment, then I think you’re doing yourself and the world around you justice. But if you do fancy yoga, then come to @studioone on Sunday either at 10 or at 12 and I will help you to get lost in the music ❤️🙏🏻
