Photographs by @robertclarkphoto #RealisRare #DiamondJourney, sponsored by @realisadiamond | As a National Geographic photographer, I’ve had the opportunity to photograph locations and elements that are nearly as old as the planet. Photographing diamonds was another opportunity to see and learn by putting my hands on surprises from the center of the earth. Locating and accessing both rough and polished diamonds was more complicated than I thought. Most diamonds that I was able to find were from South Africa and were cut and polished at the source or in Antwerp, Belgium. But diamonds have a much longer and arduous journey long before they are presented to the public. Lovely Family Trip | Photograph by Ritagnik Bhattacharya
.
“We traveled four hours through the rough terrains of Nelliyampathy in Kerala, and on our way, we stopped at the hill top to appreciate the beauty of nature and hills,” writes Your Shot photographer Ritagnik Bhattacharya. “As my grandmother enjoyed the view from the jeep, my mother looked the other direction where my uncle and our driver took in the scenery and the calmness of the place. What a lovely trip it was.”

“Beautiful example of layering and a complex composition. Love it!” — @natgeo photographer Matt Moyer (@mattmoyer). This photo was submitted to our “Quest for Happiness” assignment, curated by @natgeo photographer Matthieu Paley (@paleyphoto); he is asking you to photograph what makes a community happy — the ecosystem of happiness. To submit, go to the link in our profile. #YourShotPhotographer

This assignment is inspired by the November 2017 @natgeo magazine cover story, “The Search for Happiness,” looking at some of the happiness places around the world, and what makes them so.
