Photo by @taylorglenn // Late afternoon light creates a beautiful rainbow in the mist below Snoqualmie Falls near Seattle, Washington. For the Snoqualmie People, who have lived for centuries in the Snoqualmie Valley in western Washington, the falls are central to their culture, beliefs, and spirituality. A traditional burial site, to the Snoqualmie, the falls are the place where First Woman and First Man were created by "Moon the Transformer" and where prayers were carried up to the Creator by great mists that rise from the powerful flow. The mists rising from the base of the waterfall are said to connect Heaven and Earth. The Waorani live in one of the most bio-diverse places in the world. There are also vast amounts of crude below the ground. The extraction of oil has continued to threaten the environment and the people of the Amazon for decades. This image was shot #onassignment for National Geographic.

Yellowstone Fantastic | Photograph by Pawel Pilch
“One of Yellowstone’s many boiling hot and full of color springs. This particular one is called Gentian Pool (nicknamed The Orchid) and can only be seen from the air as the surface around it is too dangerous,” writes #YourShotPhotographer Pawel Pilch. “I took this photo from a height of 2,000 feet (600 meters) through a small open window on the side of a helicopter that was tilted 45 degrees downwards. This allowed me to point the camera completely down. From this vantage point, this land becomes something entirely different. There was no color enhancement.”

“An interesting aerial view of Yellowstone. I could still recognize the hot springs thanks to the colors, and the way this aerial looks, it’s almost like I’m seeing the springs from under a microscope. Very interesting.” — @natgeoyourshot Senior Producer Matt Adams (@themattadams)
