Amazon Frontlines

Sunset over the pristine blackwater lagoons of Lagartococha, located within the Secoya people’s ancestral homeland. ⠀

The Secoya’s territory once extended an estimated 7 million acres between the Putumayo and Napo rivers from Ecuador into Colombia and Perú. Today, the Secoya live in a reduced and fractured territory, divided by borders between Ecuador and Perú. The Secoya of Ecuador now have legal title to only 50,000 acres and are surrounded by oil fields and oil palm plantations. ⠀

Amazon Frontlines is working with the Secoya nation and the indigenous organization Alianza Ceibo to protect their remaining territory and gain legal title to large areas of their ancestral homeland. You can learn more and support this vital work by visiting www.amazonfrontlines.org ⠀
