Photo by @gabrielegalimbertiphoto /// Tanzania. Two Maasai men are talking outside of their village which is located just outside of the Ngorongoro crater. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is a protected area and a World Heritage Site located 180 km (110 mi) west of Arusha in the Crater Highlands area of Tanzania. The area is named after Ngorongoro Crater, a large volcanic caldera within the area. The conservation area is administered by the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority, an arm of the Tanzanian government, and its boundaries follow the boundary of the Ngorongoro Division of the Arusha Region.
The 2009 Ngorogoro Wildlife Conservation Act placed new restrictions on human settlement and subsidence farming in the Crater, displacing Maasai pastoralists, most of whom had been relocated to Ngorongoro from their ancestral lands to the north when the British colonial government established Serengeti National Park in 1959. The construction of luxury tourist hotels in the Conservation Area allows people to access "the unparalleled beauty of one of the world's most unchanged wildlife sanctuaries", according to a government brochure, even as thousands of Maasai have suffered forcible eviction and have been denied access to water sources for their livestock. The Crater was voted by Seven Natural Wonders as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa in Arusha, Tanzania in February 2013. #tanzania #ngorongoro #crater #africa #maasai

@misperfect54

If I can guess what they are talking about, I will say I hope that it start raining soon so we can harvest our land

@ccjemmstar

@arm.nd You can judge all you want but the truth is tourists like me bring income to the people that they would not have had otherwise. Awareness of the needs of other cultures by groups like @waterboysorg brings water to Tanzania. The people in the #Maasai village I visited gave me much more than I gave them. I live in #PhiladelphiaPA USA. I am not offended when tourists come to visit the Liberty Bell. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to visit the amazing wildlife, scenery and people that make up the country of Tanzania.
