As the U.S. war in Afghanistan enters its 20th year and the country marks its fourth decade of conflict, 2.6 million Afghans live as refugees. Another 1.5 million are internally displaced. Due to ongoing conflict, Afghanistan was the largest refugee-producing country in the world, seeing even second and third generations being born as refugees, never having known their homeland. Still today, Afghan citizens are the second largest population of refugees in the world, after Syria. The crisis shows little hope of abating. To learn more, including how to help, follow @refugees @unicef @theirc @doctorswithoutborders and others working on the front lines of the refugee crisis.
