Portrait of Maria from "Rojochique" village. She belongs to Rarámuris (Tarahumaras) people.

One of the most beautiful experiences I’ve had was to work at the northern part of Mexico, at the state of Chihuahua, in a region known as Sierra Madre. That’s where Rarámuris live.
Etymologically rarámuri means “runner’s feet“ and in a broader sense it means “the on “the ones with light feet“, referring to the most antique tradition they have: running. They’re known for their capacity to travel long distances at high speed in the complex topography of the region.
The "Rarámuris" (Tarahumara) are believed to be descended from the Mogollon culture.

Photo by @CarltonWard // The Econlockhatchee is one of my favorite rivers in Florida. It begins in Orlando and flows east to its confluence with the St. Johns River, which flows northwards (like the Nile) to the Atlantic Ocean in Jacksonville. Rivers unite and sustain us, while not always seen or appreciated. Both originating in Central Florida, the Evergaldes and St. Johns watersheds encompass the entire length of the Florida peninsula. Please follow @carltonward to see more of my vision for keeping keeping Florida connected and wild. #River #palms #floridawild #keepflwild @fl_wildcorridor @natgeocreative

Unsung Hero: My Cousin Gabe | Photograph by Rex Jones (@rexjonesphoto)
“Without arms or legs, my cousin Gabe Adams (@no_limbs_) has already accomplished more than what most people ever will,” writes Your Shot photographer Rex Jones. “As a motivational speaker, he talks about excelling without limits, and how he has continued to achieve his goals with arms or legs. I wanted to photograph him in a location that portrayed him in a place where most people would not expect him to be, to visually emphasize his overall message of not letting a handicap stop him.”

Inspired by the @natgeochannel series, “The Long Road Home,” that relives the ferocious ambush the American First Cavalry Division endured in Sadr City, Iraq in 2004, @natgeoyourshot is launching a new assignment called “Unsung Hero,” curated by @natgeo photographer Matt Moyer (@mattmoyerphoto). Matt is inviting you to share who is your hero, and more importantly, why? Who lifts you up, inspires you, protects you, even saves you? To share your photos and stories about your unsung hero, go to the link in our profile. #YourShotPhotographer
